For those who don't know, Eureka Miniatures in Australia has a deal going called the 300 Club -- a customer can submit requests for a specific type of mini, and once they get enough pre-order commitments they'll sculpt and cast that mini.  The service is pretty much for 25mm/28mm scale, but I emailed the company about doing 6mm and got this response:

Would you ever consider doing a special "1000 Club" deal for 6mm figures? I know a dozen or so people who would be very interested in 6mm "skeletal robots" that could be used as proxies for Necrons or Arnie-style terminators.

Thanks,
Andreas

Dear Andreas,

A great thought, but I have to say none of my sculptors have made 6mm figures before, and I'm not sure they want to.

Please let me know how many figures you would be looking at and I'll see what sort of price it would cost and if I can find someone to do it.

All the best

Nic

So, if Nic were able to find a sculptor willing and able to do a 6mm not-Necron mini, would there be enough interest here to commit to pre-ordering a run of them?  Given the difference between 28mm and 6mm, we'd probably have to pre-order several thousand of them rather than just 300, but since Necrons are a trooper-heavy army, it might be viable.  Plus they could be used to game Terminator 3!

Chime in if you think you might be interested.  If Nic can find a sculptor, we can work out with him what pricing might look like.

Thanks,
jav98

I never knew such a service existed. What a great idea.  I'm not interested in Necrons, but I can imagine all sorts of other uses for such a service.

If not Necrons, then maybe... Squats, o supreme dwarf?

Not a bad idea!  :p  However, what I was thinking about was a Psy-Titan.

I'd definitely be in for a couple hundred of the little Necron guys if the sculpt is good enough.

Keep in mind as well that he expects the orders up front, so if you do not have enough people he does not move forward.

Further, he also told me that I could not just place a single order for the minimum number as that does not show an on going interest in a figure.

He is looking to use the 300 club to build his lines. He is only interested in doing 300 club minis that seem to have some interest from more then one person. He is looking to move a 300 club mini to his normal lines.

Yes, I tried to have stuff done in the past with him, did not work. :(

PS: In saying all this, I do not mean to knock him overall though. It is a great company in many ways.

Yeah, I think the website says he needs orders from ten people minimum to move on it.  But I think we could find ten Epicommers who would be interested enough to meet that requirement.

I wonder if Drassannar would be interested in doing some commission work?

I wouldn't waste time and money to get him to do Squat infantry though. First of all the GW plastics are still available at near decent prices from E-bay. Secondly I've got a hunch that suitable proxies might become available sooner than people might think... (and that's all I have to say about that matter *tease mode off* :blues: )

I was thinking more along the lines of minis that are hard or impossible to find.

However, I do appreciate the "insider information" about Squat proxies. :p

I'm in for any Epic 300 club ideas from Eureka....gotta support the locals.  I'd add Exodite riders (or any futuristic cavalry types), "chaotic space elves" and "space frogmen" to the Necron idea.

So what is their policy on redoing OOP minis?  They are already sculpted but no longer sculpted.

I don't think they'd be eager to cross swords with GW, so any obvious redux of current or former GW IP would be out.  The beauty with Necrons is that they are an obvious knock-off of Arnie-style terminators, and "skeletal robots" aren't owned by anybody.

Chaotic space elves would also be easy to do -- take standard elf, add gun.

And Tau could be any anime-style "android warriors" with squarish guns.

Good luck if you do move forward. I am always happy to see others who have the energy to tackle these things.
