Yeah - we did the same first time round, working up from 1500 infantry games through to 3-5k games. Our league generally ran at around the 3000 point mark for standard games and 2000 for the titan arenas on club nights. Friday night and Saturday were our big ones though. Generally 30-50k per side, on the floor of an outbuilding at the community centre. Friday night to setup and All day saturday to play. Generally 3-5 players per side(ish)

I've got my bro round tomorrow for an intro - will try and take some pics as we go.

In terms of vehicle and infantry, we always used to work to percentages, if the vehicle moved 90% of its allowance, the stand could then move 10% of its allowance - working on the basis that the 'time taken' would always add up to 100%. We limited this to common multiples though, 50% 75% and 10% were the most common.

Wow! 30K - 50K!!! Sounds ace!

Yeah, the percentage way was how I always played it until about a year/year and a half ago. When I read the Net Epic rules I was aware that the change in rules would have a significant impact upon the game, specifically 45cm for a Rhino and 15cm for standard infantry (20cm for assault). That is incredible reach across the board! In practice though the change hasn't impacted on the game as much as I thought it might; but you do have to keep a close eye on what's going on! Your idea of working in multiples is definitely a good one that will make those occasionally fiddly calculations far simpler!

Good luck with the match tomorrow, I hope your brother enjoys his introduction to Epic! :)

Yeah, the larger games were great fun - board was split into quadrants and we generally paired players off within them, assigning overall command to one player per side :) I'd love to play like that again, just need to get a few more people playing locally first....

Bro was hooked after turn 2 of the first game (we ended up playing 2) and is already talking about picking up some imp fists and guard to match his 40k armies...

I took a few pics, nothing startling, but gives an idea of what went on, and shows the first few sections of my urban terrain in use - not detailed or painted yet, but was nice to play on something a bit different.....

The board is 5*4' and covered in a pale brown battlemat I bought a few years back.

Got a 40k model to finish up in the next few days then its back to the epic painting hopefully :)

I'm delighted to hear your brother enjoyed it so much that he has the Epic bug already!

Your urban terrain is already looking great, I'm sure it will be top notch once it is painted up! What you've done with your old AT buildings is ingenious and made me chuckle!

I look forward to following your progress over the coming weeks and months! :)

Thanks for the feedback guys :)

I *think* my brother has the bug - already had a couple of conversations with him about unit make-up and what he'd need to field this unit or that one. He's also sent me a few WiP shots of the start of his Imperial Fists :)

After finishing up my entry to January's painting comp on another forum, I have one or two more 40k figs to finish off before I get back into the epic stuff properly...

Hopefully I'll make a dent in the unpainted/unmodelled stuff before the sisterhood models are released over on OM. I've got a wife here who keeps on asking if they're out yet :) **fingers crossed**

On another note, my brother in law is itching to get a game in with his Orks.... ;D

And back on track with the start of an objective marker for theme driven games (black hawk down anyone?)

Using a spacer from a pack of dvd-r discs (120mm diameter) and a thunderhawk. The plan is to make it look as if it's been recently downed.

I'm hoping to try out a few new techniques with this one alongside working through some rank and file of my marines....

Small update as the downed thunderhawk is *almost* finished (took a slight detour to make some asteroids for XWing).

Waiting for the glue to set on the smoke clouds, then I can spray them up and get them attached. After that it should just be a case of adding the treetops :)

Thanks guys.

Based on progress last night, I should have the piece finished tomorrow, and be able to take some proper pics. Then it's back on to a combination of Marines and building the rest of my drop pods......
