Howdy, those of you who've been following my Big Paint thread will know that I am part way through painting my Epic Guard army, I've just painted the infantry and am now moving on to the Chimera's for this formation. Basically I was wondering what suggestions people have regarding markings to designate the unit they're carrying. There are 9 which are for Units of Guardsmen, 1 for Command units, 2 for Ogryn units, and 1 for Ratling Snipers. In the E:A rulebook and the Guard Codex it suggests markings for Tanks (three stripes at the front of the side), but I was thinking of doing something different for the Chimeras. I know on 40k some people put numbers on the turret, but in Epic the minis are a little small to do that! ![]() Any advice/ideas would be appreciated, thanks for looking! P.S. there'll be some pics of my first few Chimeras (minus markings!) posted within the next couple of days, on my painting thread. |

If not numbers how about simple shapes or symbols. Like a triangle for 1st Company and a square for second, etc. |

That works, the UK used a similar system. Even the French used Spades, Hearts, Clubs, etc. like on playing cards, at the beginning of WWII. Even a system of Vs, would work. You know, like the IDF uses ... ^, < , > , v ... |

If you've got a fine pen it is relatively easy to hand write the numbers on the flat side of a turret. I'd combine it with the simple geometric figure CC and L4 suggested. Use a light background colour for the black pen and use roman numbers (is it called that in english?) like I II III IV V VI etc. These are fairly easy to do: I wrote some on my UM dreadnoughts and Tech Guard Robots without too much trouble. Then again decals are much easier and faster to use ![]() Cheers! ![]() |

Wasnt there an article for third edition about the three band coloured slashes across the front sides of the vehicle denoting battlefield function? |

Imperial Armour I has a whole section on what the unit markings and numbers mean. The colour of the stripe denotes the company number usually; off the top of my head red is first company and blue is second. |
