I would imagine that Ben's Novan Lighter designs are basically the counterpart of ships we have on Earth today. Perhaps the double sized print should be cast and sold as such, with the normal sized one functioning as its 3mm counterpart.

The idea with the Lighters is that they're small cargo transfer ships.

So because the big starships can't enter the atmosphere, they use dozens of these little lighters to carry cargo pods up and down from the bulk cargo haulers in orbit.

My thoughts also, starports would have squadrons of these ships making surface to orbit and back cargo runs, basically the workhorses of the Novan supply chain.

And I would imagine that the Lighters are still small craft with that role. There would prolly also be craft that can carry hundreds of containers to low orbit.

One would imagine that some really large ships couldn't deal with tidal stress from low orbit, and would need to stay pretty far up. So lighters could do double duty bringing freight pods to parking orbits, so other lighters could then transport them down to the surface. On planets with moons, lighters could also serve at "catch orbits" to pick up ore pods catapulted to them from rail gun stations on the lunar surfaces.

I don't know on that personally.

I quite like the idea of big landers being relatively rare, and the orbital ships mostly being served by dozens and dozens of smaller craft.

If Earth's logistics of today are anything to go by, you'd gonna be needing thousands upon thousands of such Lighters to operate a single port. Look at container ships today, many of them can carry hundreds, if not thousands, containers at once.

Painted up one of the 6mm scale Lighter prints in Syran starport colours, wanted a weathered and beat up look to it.

Nice. I didn’t realise there were 3 variants, thought there were 2.
