So, after moving to a city with other Epic players, I've resumed work on my quickly-abandoned attempt at a Saim Hann army. Not much there yet, but I've got a dozen each of vypers and jetbikes, a half dozen falcons, a Scorpion and a Vampire heading towards me as I post, which should hopefully give me the beginnings of an army.
So, pics! Apologies for their not-amazing quality, I had to take them with my phone.

The Avatar:

Dire Avengers (Yes, they're blue guardians... I had spare guardians, and I'll probably buy proper models if I use them regularly):

Jetbikes: Obviously largely unbased as of yet. The formation with the varied canopy patterns will have the Wild Rider Chieftain; I've always pictured him as riding to war alongside the heads of the Host's clans or something like that, so lots of variety in iconography. Also, I'm yet to convert up any Wild RIders yet; I'll do that when I get some more bikes.

Shining Spears: (one has come off its stand in this pic)

Scorpions:

Reapers: (a bit hard to see well in these pics...)
Image

Warp SPiders: Not based, but the painting's finished.
Image

"Fire Dragons" (will swap these out for proper models as soon as possible; guardians-as-avengers works reasonably well but dragons are a bit different.)
Image

Guardians (I have a few more hosts entirely unpainted to do...):

Hopefully I'll have some pretty gravtanks (and many more pretty bases!) to update this with in the near future. The problem with Saim-Hann is, I'm painting up all these nice aspect warriors, but I'm never going to be able to field them...

EDIT: fixed images

EDIT2: ohgawd large photos. Sadly not much I can do about it on the typewriter of a PC I'm using...

Looks really good, love the foliage your using too don't think i've seen it used to base mini's before. If your phone camera makes the pics look bad, and they look as good as they do in real life they probably look amazing.

Thanks! I should have some updates up in a few days, but I thought I'd briefly discuss the foliage. Around here there're mountains with a bush on them that goes amazing colours in autumn (it's I think the only Australian deciduous plant), and so I've vaguely themed my basing on what it looks like:

(Not taken by me, but I've been there many times)

I've had to be a bit more sparing with the foliage than in reality, because uniformly orange bases would both be silly and leave bits of flock everywhere. I'm using this stuff, which is about the right size for epic-scale ground covering shrubs. The oranges and greens seem to set off bright colours of the eldar minis really well, too :)

Update! Quite a bit been done (that I'll hopefully get pics of later...), but in the meantime have 4 completed Falcons and a Scorpion II (The model for which is probably me favourite in the Epic range). Still using my phone cam, and the bases aren't done yet, but they're looking fairly nice I think. 2 more Falcons and 6 Vypers soon to come!

And a horribly blurry groupshot, also showing my first test Vyper in the corner:

bummer, a friend of mine lives in Hobart and was thinking of trying to get him into the game :)

I'd say do it anyway... If they play 40k I probably know them, Hobart being a small place. I *think* there might be one or two people with epic armies, and there'd probably be some interest if you tried to get it started up.

Those are beautiful tanks! Excellent job on the double-stripe scheme.

they look great man, i cant beleive how much of a colour match your eldar are to mine, we could field our armies side by side easily :P
i also agree with you on the scorpion i to think its one of the best current models.

Apoc: As they're based now, I took another pic just for you ;). Also, done my 6 Vypers and based the Falcons + Scorpion:

Also, my webway gate as I never bothered posting it before:

Now, a question to the painters out there: How on earth do you do freehand with a 1-2mm wide canvas? My control is fine enough, but with the amount of paint you have on a brush, it seems to always end up drying by the time I've moved my brush from the palette to the model: I pick up a tiny amount of paint, wipe most of, then try to paint a line and have nothing happen, which is quite frustrating. The serpent icon on one of the Vypers could/should have looked much nicer, but I simply couldn't get small enough brushloads of paint to the mini before they dried on me :/. Any help would be appreciated!

Post subject:  Re: Saim-Hann (hopefully a log-to-be...)

you could cut down an old brush to only 1-3 bristles for fine control and to still have enough paint to mark the surface

a friend of mine used to use a single hair to paint many moons ago.

also (i havent tried it) you could try those paint wetting agents which means that the paint takes longer to dry

you can also use drying retarder
