I usually hit minis twice with Testors Glosscote and once with Dullcote. No complaints, just follow the instructions on the cans.

I use Krylon Gloss Varnish, then the GW Matte. That being said, I'll probably switch over to the Krylon Matte when my GW runs out, since I've had good luck with the Gloss, and it costs $2.97 a can instead of $15...

Gloss then matte is always the best. Just keep in mind varnish is ever so slightly yellow, so it can cause problems over white.

it does, but it provides a better protective seal than matte. After you hit them with a coat of gloss, hit them again with a coat of matte varnish to knock back the shine... then use some brush on gloss to pop the metals if you really feel adventuresome. :)

The matte dulls it down again, the gloss gives better protection and the matte is then just to take the visual gloss effect away.

I use the spray cans, rather than painting it on. You can get them at most craft stores (at least in the states) and they usually have web coupons for 40% off.

Brush-on gloss comes in handy for gems, screens, and sometimes metal, but I've never found a use for brush-on matte overcoat. Look for a spray.

Having said that, Wattle Estapol flat works pretty well too.

Wattle Estapol flat, I would only ever use on terrain- it tends to yellow. Agree that a clear spray gloss varnish then a matt varnish is the way to go. I have tried gunze sayo mr hobby flat coat and army painter matte varnish, both are good- i prefer the quality of mr.hobby but army painter comes in a big can.

Hi there!

Right now I use vallejo matt varnish, and it hasn't given me any problems yet...

Does anybody know if Testors Dullcote is available in Italy, too?

For what it's worth, I think Testor's and Model Master are by the same company... or something like that.
