I now have a large number of the old lead wartraks and buggies.  I'm looking for ideas on how to convert them into scorchas.  I've got a few ideas, but I'd rather not share them and "pollute the jury pool" so to speak until some other people have thrown out ideas.

As always, any help is appreciated.

Neal,

I have a whole bunch of extras too. I've been thinking of converting some of them into Ork logistics vehicles with canvas truck tops or flatbeds and supplies. Some will become scout vehicles I think.

Some of them I'd like to cut up and use for bitz.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

P.S.
I'd love to hear your ideas as well.

I have converted some of my Ork buggies (as I had used the gunners elsewhere) into Squig Catchers utilsing "claws" from converted Ork Dreadnoughts.

You could of course always convert them into Imperial Vehicles

As for Scorcha conversions, the key is to add a few trailers or Hellhound Fuel Tanks.

Jimbo:  I like the buggies.

I was thinking of taking a dowel and cutting it into cylinders to use as 55-gallon-drum-style fuel tanks by pinning them to the backs of the buggies/traks.  Then I figured I would take the melta/flamer style gun barrels off some plastic buggies I have and either replace or add them to the ends of the existing barrels.  Lastly, a couple bits of wire to run from the tank to the gun as hoses, and Voila! it's a Scorcha.

A second option was to chop the warbuggies and use the wheels to mount the dowel-tanks as trailers.

Probably, I'd do mostly the first option and do a larger trailer version to use as a commander type.

So, skill aside, do you think those will make valid-looking conversions?

I wouldnt use dowel. Invest in some plastistruct / evergreen plastic rod - its easier to wotk with and if you buy one of the mixed plastic rod packs, you can get pieces the right size for the tanks, wiring and possible detailing if you want.

Just my opinion, but I've never been a great one for working with wood.

To throw another option into the mixing pool - how about converting some into Trukks? I've done a couple of these as test pieces (not painted yet!) with the E40K edition buggies. Chop them in half, and insert a flat bed of either card or plastic sheet between the two pieces to make the flatbed troop compartment like the 40K versions. Use wire/plasic rod or sheet plastic to add an edge/railings tot he flatbed and you've got a pretty neat Ork Trukk. Just a thought since scorchers themselves are production models and easy to come by.

Good idea on the trukks (like I should be surprised).  I was actually thinking brass rod, although I said dowel.  In any case, thanks for the heads up on the plastic rod.  I'll see if I can hunt some down.

The plastic parts that T/S talks about are great. I use them all the time, my local hobby shop is well stocked. :)

and it's all very easy to work with too

if you get come very fine plastic rod, you can create rivets as well...

Neal,

What did you end up doing with your left-overs (all of the extra Ork vehicles)?

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

A few have been traded, but I still have a fairly large number (15-20, maybe) of the old lead buggies and trakks.  Are you interested in them, or were you asking about conversions?

On the conversion side, I ended up finding a cheap batch of the newer scorchas, as well as a few trakks with the heavy flamer which I plan to use as scorchas.  So, I never converted the older trakks and buggies.

Neal,

I was wondering if you converted them.
