Im slowly getting back into things and collecting mini's for my new armies. So Im having a go a creating a record of stuff I do - hopefully it will encourage me to keep doing stuff!

To start with Ive been following recent tips to look into washes. Doing some research I came across les washes on the DakkaDakka forums which looked pretty cool so I bought a bunch of inks and made a bunch up.

Here's the results on a bunch of old beaky marines.

Pretty interesting results eh. They're a little bit blotchy but thats probably cus the minis were previously trash/ badly painted and brush undercoated before washing. All I did was prime vallejo white and then wash.

The wash colours (from les's names) are the following;

soft body black, hard body black, red, blue, greeen
flesh, parchment, dark sepia, purple,amethyst

plane, plane, algae, sapphire,ruby
plane, armour, sewer, concrete, stone

For Epic infantry, you'll probably get the most mileage out of darker washes, but it looks like a fun experiment.

I like the Les post because it shows how simple it is to make an equivalent of the overpriced GW stuff. O0

Yeh, not sure I'll get much use out of the straight color washes. I can see me making heavy use of the heavy and light body black washes though (may even make a super light for more subtle work). The dirtier washes should be good for terrain and buildings too I'm thinking - I like the concrete wash in particular.

And yeh, tis nice to avoid buying GW products :). I guess I'm a stereotypical ex GW customer in that regard - love turned to dissapointment and eventually disgust... :(

I'm with Ghudra on this one. The washes seem to be a bit too light for washing-instead-of-painting. However, they seem to be perfect for glazing or acheiving crystal effects and so on.

Sorry, didn't mean to suggest I'd be using these washes in place of a coloured base coat! I used white as base for the washes so it's easier to compare them.

Stingray,
Hi im the same, always used to just paint the minis and had never touched washes until a while ago, they are brilliant and cant beleive i did not use them before! I did the same and used a load of the old sm marines to experiment, I base my minatures then spray a very light coat of skull white and add at least two colour washes, you can get a pretty good uniformed colour through out all the minatures ;)

Good luck with the minatures regards epic
