Hey everyone!

I recently got hold of some of the old "Beetleback" Warlord titans (Thanks Doug!) and I need some advice on a few things with them. Any help whatsoever is apprecitated.

1) The base. I wanna glue on some of the ruins you get with the bases sprues, as a kinda scale things, and the fact that I have 100's, and I was wondering is there a good way to do this?

I was thinking of how to get to paint the ruins after the model is painted, and if it would be eaiser to make the base and the titan seperate until the are both painted and finished, then just glue them together.

2) Assembling the titans. Any tips on how to glue the carapace on, as it could go on at any angle to the body. Also, weapons fits, shall I just put on whatever I have? And when I play, say that counts as whatever, and so on?

3) Paintscheme. I want a good paintscheme, the would make the titan look really cool, but it would also have to easily go onto some of the never titans and older ones so that they would easilt fit together. I know it wouldn't be hard, but I need inspiration!

Many Thanks in advance

Cheers

Chris

Well done for tracking some of these guys down. While I am not a huge fan of any of the titans, the bettlebacks are great just for nostalgia!

I am sure that the 'approved' way is to paint the ruins and titan seperately, but I never do this. I always glue a mini together completely before I take paint to it, even adding the guns to 40K minis first. I just find this easier. That being said, I dont think that the ruins would get in the way too much, and I would just go ahead and glue the lot together first.

As for the carapace, I found that it is sometimes best to stick the top weapons on before sticking this down, as this stops any 'shoot the moon' titans with the guns pointing at extreme angles. This should then make the glueing of the carapace fairly obvious as to the angle.

Some people make the weapons interchangeable, and I did this to start with. However, I now prefer to just stick with a specific weapons fit. This is more in character and makes you think about the titan more, and gives it more character in its games. I would even go to the lengths of specifying what the weapons actually are, and leaving them always this way for all games.

As for the colour schemes, the start of AT brought up some great colour schemes. Check out some of the older WD. Dark blue and dark green work well, or you consider giving them a knight theme with halved or quatered patterns. Whatever you do, we want pictures.

I glue ruins on bases by gluing the ruin bit with plastic glue, then put super glue around the base of the ruin and the ruin base itself and sprinkle sand and ballist on it.  Let dry and shake off the extra.  You then have a more realistic ruin.  As far as painting - sorry guys, you know what I'm going to say !  Tactical/camo colors, Titans are weapons of war not something in a circus !      :D  :;):

Ok, thanks guys. Does anyone know of a good online resource, other than Armorcast for titan colour schemes?

And I was thinking of going with a blue or green, with a yellow or gold trim...any thoughts on that?

Cheers

There is always the De'Aynes Epic... oh, wait.  :;):

I am sure that the schemes that you mentioned have been put together somewhere, green and blue are popular titan colours and yellow contrasts with both.

I think that it is Warp Runners that are blue with flames, as I did this Legio with the release of AT. I like the sound of the schemes. I was going to do my Imperial titans blue and the Eldar dark green as well.

Hi!

The most ingenious way to make the weapons interchangeable was to put magnets on the carapace and weapons for ture customization.

Use as little permanent glue in as little places as possible in case you need to pry them out... :;):

Thanks for the help Primarch, but I think I will just assemble them as is, as I only have enough weapons for 3, no spares.
I think I will stick to specific weapons fits for them, so that they become individual in games, and develop a "personality"

Hi!

Thats the route I finally chose. You get used to titans with fixed armament and you build tactics around them and even give them names.  :)

I designed most of my Titans, as I?have said before, as Fire Support Weapons Platforms. ?However, I designed one with Corvus Pod head and arms plus a Carapace Landing Pad. ?This is my version of a 40K Siege Tower, to be loaded with Assault Marines and Terminators !  But I have only used onced ... and it does look cool !

Yeah, I see titans as kinda fire support vehicles, destroying the enemy from the back, picking out enemies one by one.

I like the idea of an assault titan, but to make a good assault, you would need about three with Thunderhawk and Drop Ship support.

Damn, that would be one cool battle...

Hi!

If you want a versatile assault titan use a reaver. Why? Speed. I have tried it with warlords but the movement rate is too slow. The reaver is fast enough and robust enough to make a fearsome opponent.

My beloved example is armed thus:

Power fist
Chain fist
Volcano cannon
Close combat head

Under SM/netepic rules the chainfist gives you an extra d6 in close combat and the close combat head a +3 to close combat factor to increase the reavers +12 to +15 (superior to standard warlord). Since on average you'll win, you then switch to power glove for maximum critical damage.

One lethal dude.

The volcano cannon is for opportunity targets on the way to the "dance".

I'd support my Siege Titan with both Thunderhawks and Dropships, which I have a good number of both !

Primarch- that sounds cool.

Until recently I was a rabid believer in what I shall herafter call the "Legion 4 School of Tactical Reality"  (  :p ) where I like real world stuff and none of this massed assault nonsense.  I armed my titans as FS platforms etc as we have always said.

Then a few weeks ago someone put a CC Titan on the Table.  "How Silly" I thought.

On Turn 3 my Warlord's guts had been ripped out and then the evil thing stomped half of a Russ Company.  My eyes are now opend to this "Assymetrical Titan Menace"

I like the sound of this guy Primarch...think I'll give him a run on the table one day.  Have you blessed this Reaver Pattern with a designation?

L4- you are just a living advert for the GWUS Mail Order site aren't you!  You have the ability to make me feel like I need to order every time to talk of your collection....bastage! :D

Seriously this guy in the right circumstances would work a treat.  Dont forget the Marauders to go with the THawks and Drop pods!

Well the L4 SoTR is always in session ! ? Thanks for the plug Tas ! ?If anyone gets tired of my dogma let me know ! ?But if you hammer those Titans packing C/C weapons before they get close to you, the possibility of being mauled by C/C and close assault tactics, is limited. ??And in SM1 you could always use 25% of your force level on off-board support and later CAS. ?I always take advantage of that ! ?:;):  And I've done Drop Pod assaults deep into the enemie's rear - those pansy Eldar didn't know what hit them !!!   And since I've been ordering from G/W MO since '90, I have a lot of stuff ! ? And I am getting more ! ?Now, I have to work on building it all ! ?:oo
