I seem to be having some difficulty staying on one project of late. ?I don't know if it's because I've not been playing and there for have no direction or if I just got too much time on my hands... Anyway Last night I was surfing hither and yon, when I ran across a model Of Reinhardt Curze. It was extremely well done and I was inspired. ?I need to make some night lords CSMs and too make it more interesting, I'll convert them from regular space marines. Here's the start.
A nightlords champion. ?I still have work to do on him, but I ran out of putty so he's on hold. ?I've started work on a chaos command landraider in the mean time.
Reinhardt Curze

Hi!
The model looks somewhat top heavy, does the putty have enough strength to keep the integrity of the model?

This is actually a very strange picture. It gives my evil champion a very apish appearance. The figure isn't near as top heavy as it appears to be. I think it is his pose and the angle I shot it from. I have him leaning forward a bit, right arm raised, left arm back and out from the body. The putty is needed to give him the tell tale signs of chaotic influence.

Hi!
Ah, I see. What instruments do you use to sculpt and mold the features?

seekermeng, I am looking forward to seeing this after it is painted. I find these kinds of models seem to always look better once it is painted.
(Not that it does not look good now of course)

This model is straight conversion. It's a Terminator body, the head from a librarian and bits from a couple other figs. I just disected it and repositioned things. When I mold with putty, I use a varity of tools. Most notablely dental picks. You know those pointy, hooky, vile things the dentist shoves in your mouth. I got those from the same dental place that I get my casting resins.

You can also ask your dentist. Most picks (in the US anyway) have tools on both ends. When one end breaks, all they can do is trade them in for some paltry amount of credit. My dentist gave me about 6 of them just because I asked. I suspect at most they would ask for a couple bucks.
Also, old burrs can be had with the same method. They get too dull to work on tooth enamel, but are still plenty sharp for using on miniatures. I haven't gotten any yet, but supposedly they work great in a dremel or other rotary tool.
Sorry to hijack the topic...

np, You are right about the burrs as well. ?I received about 30 that were essentially no good for for dentistry but have plenty of modeling life left in them. ? Since we are basically on this topic, here is a nearly complete list of all the things I've acquired from the dentist with modeling applications. Casting resins Alginate (this is a water soluable mold making material) Wax (sheets and sprues, also has molding applications) Burrs picks Reamers (these are miniature corkscrew things used in rootcannals) Triad gel (this is a like an epoxy that air sets) permadyne (this is a two part mold material great for making very small molds) microbrush applicators (these are like little brushes but instead of bristles they have a fuzzy tip cood for glue applications) microsanders (these are like tiny file about a 1/4" long) Lead strips (from dental x-rays great for making bitz) various ?mix cups, droppers I also ordered a moto tool. ?It's more ?compact than a dremel, you can pres set your mak rpms, has a foot control and is reversible. ?The only down side is the fact that it only takes 1/8" shafted bits. ?But all the dental burs are 1/8". I also got my vacuum form machine from a dentist. It was expensive, but of a better quality than the ones you buy from hobby suppliers

Here are some updated pics of My chaos champ. My camera still fights me on close ups of figures so forgive the quality
I sculpted a cape and on his left shoulder a skull chaos symbol. ?As I was dry brushing 2 of the pointy bits of the symbol broke off. ?I had sliced two of my fingers rather badly on another project (mind you knife blades) so I removed all the pointy bits from the symbol as apposed to trying to resculpt them with bandaged fingers. ?Leaving just the skull. ?I may go ahead and paint the symbol back in.
