Im still hoping to pick up an extra bomber, as i prefer them to the SG Nightwing models. The 2 Night Spinners are used as Void Spinners. Im also currently trying to pick up a Phantom to expand to 4000 points.

Next up, im planning on beginning painting my Guard, planning on doing a desert camo theme.

Well........as you can see it has been over 18 months since i posted here :o the Eldar above have long since gone as i emigrated. Now back in sunny old Manchester ive decided to give Epic another go and with a good group of gamers who shown me the ropes last time, it has worked out well. As i sold the Eldar army, i needed something new. I stumbled across a chap with a large amount of Space Marines for sale and a few pm's later, i had got rid of an old box of Ogres and managed to get this:-

Image

Overall it consists of:-

4 x Commander stands
4 x Librarian stands (will sub as Chaplains)
5 x classic metal Dreadnoughts
3 x Razorbacks
4 x Scout stands
4 x Terminator stands
12 x plastic Whirlwind
48 x Tactical Marine stands
32 x plastic Rhino
8 x Assault Marine stands
12 x Devastator stands
12 x Vindicators
10 x Biker stands
5 x old style plastic Landspeeders
8 x metal Landspeeders
10 x original plastic Land Raiders
2 x metal Land Raiders
12 x plastic Land Raiders
1 x metal Thunderhawk Gunship (improvised wing tip Heavy Bolters)
2 x Reaver Titans
2 x Warlord Titans
1 x Imperator

So it contained almost everything i needed for my 3k list. Before they arrived, i was thinking of the bog standard Ultramarine colour scheme, however, as most of them are undercoated green, it makes perfect sense to paint them as Dark Angels! My aim is to have a 3k force painted by March 24th, which is when Into The Breach is (local tourney), whether it is realistic or not remains to be seen. And whether i am tactically aware enough to play also remains to be seen.

Here is a couple of close up pics of my 3k force. The two warlords will be substituted by Warhounds when they arrive and i should have a parcel arrive in the next day or two from FW with 4 Thunderbolts and some objectives. Im hoping by posting here it will encourage me to actually try and paint.

Today, i have mostly been working on.....these :D

I got the transports painted for both the scouts and tacticals, plus the weaponry too. On the Rhino's, i have actually picked out some of the detail, but it doesnt show up to great in the pics. Still undecided if i should try and pick out the bolters on the tac marine stands and the scouts still need their faces & hair painting. Ive also painted the two units of Assault Marines and given the termies the first coat of bleached bone (they will be Deathwing termies!). The whirlwinds will represent the hunters in the list. Ive re-based the bikes and given them a coating of DA green and the first dry brush too. Ill pick out some details tomorrow (wheels/exhaust pipes). Im hoping though, with a bit of flock stuck on the bases, ill get away with them for ITB!

Ive included a full army shot, the only thing missing is the Predators. Tomorrows job is buying some undercoat, flock and a couple more paints and undercoating everything that remains. Im hoping to finish off the two whirlwinds, the terminators and the scouts. I also need to decide on a colour scheme for my titans (will follow through to my Titan Legion army).

Im not too sure yet! For simplicity and to save time im just going to stick some flock on them to get them through ITB which is in 2 weeks. After that i will try and come up with something for them. Any ideas will be greatly welcomed!

I struggle to base neatly once figures are finished. So I tend to glue fine sand to the bases before I have even undercoated infantry. For vehicles the same except I will often do base separately and then attach to vehicle once almost finished.

If I want temperate zone terrain then I paint the bases with Calthan Brown and drybrush up with lighter browns (Scorched Brown and Bestial Brown IIRC). I then add some modelling flock.

If I want desert zone terrain then I paint the bases with Tau Sept Ochre and drybrush up with Desert Yellow and Bleached Bone. I then add a little modelling flock.

It would be easy to do the same sort of thing for Urban terrain with Adeptus Battlegrey and Codex Grey.

(I like using foundation paints as 1st coat because they go so well over black undercoat).

What sort of thing were you thinking of?

Cheers

James

I tend to do as you do and base first before any paint is applied. But these Marines came already undercoated when i got them. In my eagerness i began painting them, i am hoping i can base them without too much pain!

I think im going to go with something light, so maybe a desert theme for the bases. Ill probably follow what you put above WI.

One thing i am curious about is transfers for models this size, mainly the tanks. Id love to add some decals to the Rhino's/Hunters/Razorbacks, but not sure if there are transfers for models this small?

I have a similar dilemna with some Ork infantry based with old style flock. I am going to have to repaint over them to match my desert basing. I have been putting it off as don't want to risk mucking them up. That's why I prefer basing as early as possible as I am a messy painter- that way i have a chance to paint over the drybrushing where covers the figure.

Everything is now undercoated! Im starting to think the deadline of ITB is doable! Ive put the first layer on the speeders and started painting the warhounds too. The termies just require a quick highlight and the bolters painting then they are good to go! The basing will definately prove to be a nightmare, but im hoping it doesnt turn out too bad.
