About face!
As many of you know, I go to Adepticon every year for the Epic and Warmaster tournaments. This year the previous custodian of the Epic tournament, somewhat inconceivably, had more important things to do. (To be fair he is heavily involved in the development of Wreck Age, so I understand)
Dave agreed to take on the administrative part of the tournament, but was unable to supply the needed terrain. Something about carrying six to eight tables of terrain with him on the plane, I don't know, what a crybaby.* I think I should be able to help. My plan is to supply 4-6 boards of terrain. Unfortunately my current collection was old and beat up and far too small. So I cracked all the salvageable E40K ruins off their decrepit bases for reuse and am starting largely from scratch. I'm planning on doing a board reusing the E40K ruins, a board of Angel Barracks' Junkers buildings, a board of AB's OKI buildings, and a couple more rural boards.**
After a few days of gathering supplies I put together a test piece of the more rural sections of the boards. Blah, blah, blah, WIP picture, blah.
Things I've learned or intend to change:
1) I need to dull out the leaf litter. It'll need varnishing, so I may give the litter a Devlan Mud or equivalent wash after that.
2) As a test piece I wasn't going to waste any of the bases for the trees, so the trees are just drilled into the board. The finished products will include the bases to make storage and removal of trees for units easier.
3) Basecoating was a pain without priming, as the water based glue started to come up and I smeared the sand around somewhat. So yeah, priming. How I'll approach this problem with the E40K ruins, which are already painted, I'm not sure. Perhaps I'll do the sand basing with the ruins temporarily attached and crack them off before priming. Suggestions appreciated here.
* For those of you who haven't noticed, I'm in an excessively sarcastic mood this week. For this I apologise. It comes (and goes) with the depression. However, I'm told all things pass with time. Even prunes.
**This plan is not final and may be subject to change at any time and without notice. Deal with it.
