Personally I would not use drybrushing over blavk for anything bone colored as the result tends to look quite gritty IMO. If you insist on working from a black undercoat I would suggest traditional layering techniques instead. But of course that's just my personal preference and some may have better luck with it that I do

Hi all I'm a gnat's crotchet away from finishing the assembly on my Dark Angels army (starting to wish I'd done a different chapter, everyone seems to be the Unforgiven these days!), and I have a quick question about colour schemes. I'm going fairly retro with my infantry schemes (red weapons, old school banners, plenty of yellow warning chevrons) and I was wondering what people thought about the colour of Deathwing weapons? I'm very tempted to go with the retro green colouring, though I don't think I've seen it done on Epic scale Terminators. Thinking of green weapon casings, green chest eagles and probably green power weapons too. Any thoughts folks? Whilst I did my Imperial Guard blog on warseer I'm hoping to put my DA on here in the near future. Thanks all -Moronguhl

Looking good L4! Loving the old school bone white, nice to see how the characters will come out too. Ã‚Â Is there any army you haven't painted?! Ã‚Â I'm using the Chaplain with a converted Crozius, and I've just managed to recover my eyesight after having done a head swap and lightning claw conversion on my Grand Master. I'm planning a more modern bleached bone type colour (white spray, gryphonne sepia wash) i reckon, inspired by silent bob's termies. -Moronguhl EDIT: Just noticed those transfers L4, good work! I'm almost convinced that at this scale painting stuff on by hand is actually easier than fiddling around with transfers!

Yes, thank you "M" ! Ã‚Â It's actually a pale desert grey ... But could work as camo in snow and ice also ... Black undercoat. Drybrush of Snakebite Leather, Drybrush of Bleached Bone and then if you want drybrush with Skull White. Add details. At least this is do with ALL bone coloured things

Place decal in water, then put on model using a small brush and knife. Lightly brush the decal with a Decal Set. And after dry, I brush on a clear flat paint on the decal. And of course, after it is dry, I spray the whole model with a clear flat spray ... Easy !!

I think the green/bone/red combo can look really nice, so I think I'm going to go for it. I'm going to use a similar paint scheme I think: white spray basecoat and a few washes for the basics, with the painted on highlights to add some accents. I've also had little success with white drybrushing. Unless you really want a gritty effect, it has limited uses. -Moronguhl

Ooo, very nice WMN, as predicted they're awesome! How did you make your Lightning Claws btw? I've made one for my Grand Master out of Scout knives, and I'd be interested to know how you managed yours. I used cut down BFG lances for my cyclones rather than scratch building them as you have, they're kind of super deformed but I like 'em! -Moronguhl

Thanks Yeah. The lightning claws are relly fiddly. To make them I started with a small square of plasticard that I glued on to form the basic fist. I then sliced some small triangular shapes from the same sheet of plasticard (0.25 I think) and then glued them in place. To make this work you need to use a bit of abstraction. There's just no way to fit every single blade in that the 40k model has. INstead I used fewer blades. It still gives the right impression from a distance with the important thing being that the overall dimensions of the weapon looks right.
