As if I don't have enough potential projects, another one popped into my head during a staff meeting yesterday. The idea is: race-specific bases. So, a Necron base would have little crystal things, an IG base would have a sunken fuel barrel or ammo crate, an SM base may have a teleport beason, and so forth. Would you pay for such things if implemented in resin? Edit - I think I got the idea from Reaver's race-custom blast/broken markers. |

I'd prefer separate ammo crates, barrels, crystals, etc myself, perhaps clumps of and/or a sprue with them on. That way I could put them on the bases and scenery myself exactly where I want them. The downside with casting things like that integral to bases is that they'd be set in particular positions on the base, which is fine for one or two bases but it's offputting for putting whole formations on them, unless you hack the detail off the bases and reposition it anyway. |

Can't say it grabs me i'm afraid Todd; I wouldn't buy any. Worth seeing what others think though. |

I'm with Glyn on this one. It sounds great for a single base but large formations would look a bit odd. Accessories would be far more usefull. Fuel drums, containers, etc in particular. If you wanted to do bases then maybe 4-6 cm circular bases for large units. But then again that would be a bit tricky as warengines have different footprints. |

Id be more interested in base accessories than whole bases as well, especially if they were on small round pegs/basses themselves the size of a round epic infantry base to bulk 4 man stands out. |

This is a very good idea, and one I'd probably invest in. -Moronguhl |

If you just made 5 hole long bases ... with the holes in a straight line at cheap price that would be worthwhile ! Have the holes is a straight line so they don't look like G/W's bases ... (G/W Epic bases are TOO Â expensive !!) Â That would be fine. Â And mold the bitz separately ... Â ![]() |

It actually works out cheaper to buy a box of infantry, throw away/give away/sell/hide/eat the infantry and keep the bases than it does to buy the same number of bases by themselves. I'd agree with what most other people have said: some accessories to put on bases would be interesting; whole bases, not so much. |

I bought an epic ork box and got more bases than I would have got for the same money separately, with the spare sprues making a decent amount on ebay to take off the cost. |

The idea of plug-in scenery is interesting. Er, maybe no plug. The advantage to built-in scenery is a single-piece mold; smaller stand-alone pieces require a 2 piece mold, and air flow is problematic in smaller pieces. But a larger clump should be do-able. How about we split, then refine the concept - terrainy bases, such as pavement, cracked desert, tomb world with a few crystals, that sort of thing? --- Bella wants me to include some emoticons - ![]() ![]() ![]() |

How about race specific transport vehicles for Necrons and Dark Eldar? |

on the subject of bases in general...the diameter of a round epic base bit is about the same of that as a standard stationary hole punch. If you punch 5 holes in a bit of 1mm plastic, then stick it 2 another bit of 1mm plastic with no holes in, you have an epic base, just without the bevel. Unfortunately the holes made are sliiightly too small, and hole punching 1mm plasti-card doesn't work brilliantly ![]() |

Quote: (Apocolocyntosis @ Sep. 16 2009, 20:40 ) but would it be worth looking into a punch-based method of production? Isn't it called a drill? |
