Now I'm disappointed that DeAynes Gallery has been offline for so many years and my own web site has been off for a year too, and I miss both. So I decided to try something along the lines of a self serving Single Gallery.

Aim:
* A self serving central open area for people to upload their own Epic images
* An easy and simple structure to viewing the images while still maintaining some form of structure

Two simple goals I set myself. Now I chose photobucket because its the only place I know. And its quite commonly used. I haven't checked the t&c yet, but the plan is to EVENTUALLY allow everyone access to the same account for people to uplaod their images. I think I may be opening up the account for abuse, but hopefully unlikely because its easy to get your own account and we're all sensible here.

I'm still building the structure and uploaded a couple of my own images so far, so I want to open it for VIEWING only to test the structure, rules and interest.

Epic40K Gallery

Here are the rules I have so far;

1) You can only upload your own images, no-one elses.
2) You can not delete or move or edit images that you do not own.
3) You will only upload images of Epic material.
4) You will not edit any settings or account options or restructure folders.
5) You will add a sensible name and if you wish, a description. But always end the description with "by ". You can include your web site if you want to.
6) Avoid placing the same images in multiple directories (there are exceptions, but limit it to two folders).
7) This is a central place for people to view epic stuff, not a storage area (create your own account for that), so if you link to it and the owner removes their image, don't complain.
8) Only photos of painted models should be uploaded. Anything that is not belongs in WIP folders only.
9) Keep images small/reasonable. Please don't upload full 10meg images as this not only fills up the storage space (1G allowed) allocated as well as eat up bandwidth allowed (250G).
10) Please don't abuse as it will spoil it for the rest of us.

How to organise the photos.
i) Battle Scenes - contains photos containing mixed army for whatever reason.
ii) Scenary - contains any sort of scenary organised into the subfolders for the style (Tyranid, Tau, Humanoid etc). If the scenary is none specific, then placed directly into the Scenary folder
iii) Race folders - for each different race, place the pictures into the corresponding sub-folder. If there isn't a sub-folder (such as Dark Eldar) then leave it in the main folder and once sufficient images are there, new folders will be created.
iv) Xtras - anything that doesnt fall into the above including other 6mm. Currently one folder, but if the interest and amount of pictures expand, I can create the structure required.
v) The images are ordered by date, please don't change this. If you absolutely need to put your images together, the trick is to move your own images out of the directory, and put it all back in.

Sub-Folders
a) Army - Group photos of mixed squads
b) Flyers - Anything that flies including machines and troops that fly (not hover). Originally this was named Navy, so the order of the folder appears after HQ. Still trying to decide.
c) HQ - Any HQ stand, or special HQ style characters. If it is a HQ stand with transport and honour guards, then that transport and guards can be placed here too. HQ Tanks do not belong here. Although if a special character on a bike can be placed here.
d) Troops - Group shot of a single company/squad and images of the squad. If the group has supporting vehcile, you can include here too, but preferably moved to vehicles unless specific reason such as company's HQ transport for instance.
e) Vehicles - Any vehicles including bikes, dreadnoughts, small machines and small tanks.
f) War Engines - Any heavy tanks and any form of titan, war machines and knights.
g) WIP - preferably completed stuff, maybe because you have never got around to painting it.
h) If you are unsure where something goes, place it in the main folder, and PM me.

I wanted to keep the structure simple, so I want to avoid creating a fourth level folder. Also unsure how to approach the Chaos Daemons and Chaos Space Marines yet, whether this should be one or two folders.

So....

Please can you respond with your interest, if you would be willing to participate and any comments on the above rules or structure.

Many Thanks in Advance

It would definitely be useful to have a well structured gallery of all the different painted models.

I am happy to contribute if you would like.

Brilliant idea :agree:
This would make it so much faster to find epic pictures then scrolling through pages of comments on old threads, only to find the links broken anyway :_( .

Id certainly contribute images :agree:

What about DRM and EW stuff? these would be allowed if being used as epic proxies i assume? (not that ive got any, just asking).

Edit- also wow, the images you've already uploaded are amazing, great BAs! :agree:

Great idea! Though it might be nice if some of the photos were a bit higher resolution so you can see more of the detail.

Is there a resolution limit or a limit to storage space on there or anything? No idea how Photobucket works.

How did you do the backpacks on your Blood Angels btw? Fantastic work!

There's a folder for Adeptus Mechanicus missing.

Thanks for the interest. Hoping to get a few more people on board, especially the major painters/converters i know on here.

I've updated some of the rules. I've left it open as possible.

Any other models are welcome, but falls under rule iv).

Rule 9 is left open for you to decide. Keep it reasonable. I've noted the photobucket limits.

I've created a single folder for "Adeptus Mechanicus" and if you noticed, some are like that too. Once pictures get added, I will probably sort them as required and build the structure.

Also some of my images are low res due to the photos being taken by an old camera. So not got around to re-taking them.

Any one have thoughts how I should organise the Daemons and Chaos Space Marines? Combine these or seperate as is?

I might be interested. Unfortunately I'm a bit busy at the moment, but once I get time I could contribute. I've been thinking about taking down the Epic Lounge for a while now as I'm not really using the site for anything else, and the web hotel costs are a bit high to justify it.

Re epic lounge: It would seem a shame to take one of the best (if not the best) epic showcase sites off-line. Your work on there is one of the things that finally made me start epic after years of looking.

Ditto on the Lounge, it's a fabulous site for inspiration. If it does go down then porting all of the images over to this Photobucket site would be a good thing indeed.

As for the image bank, it's a great idea and one I'd happily contribute to. Personally I'd be tempted to go with a wiki from pbworks for ease of access and to make it easier for non Tac-Comms people to find and view. You could also control who could access/edit which page too pretty easily (I use them a bit in my teaching and have found the platform to be stable and very easy to use).

levinas..  Can you point me to this wiki. I've never seen it. If I can use it easily, I may switch over to that.

As for epic Lounge, I view that occasionally in hope of seeing something new too.

Warmaster... if I have permission (or anyone that would assist) we can upload it on your behalf when the site is ready.

I always love seeing all manner of painted 6mm miniatures & would be very happy to see such a resource put back into action.

I personally havent painted much epic stuff in recent times, only DRM, but I dont have a personal website at the moment & do have hundreds of epic images from my days pro-painting. If any of them would be of interest despite being a few years old, I'd be pleased to contribute  :))

Guys,

My site has a gallery for all 40k-related versions from GW. If anyone wishes to test out my facilities I can create an account for you.

At the minute I have to create a gallery for you to load into but if it proves useful I could allow any user to create a new gallery for themselves. A user can upload an image and it is reformatted, thumbnailed and added to the database table for the user's gallery. It is then shown on the main public gallery under the gallery section. A hyperlink to both the image and the gallery are provided and a stats counter updates any viewings of the gallery. Each image also has a quick download facility. All images in a gallery are added to a slideshow and later will be added to a Flash slideshow using XML data loading.

There is also a facility for users to upload files for public download.

If anyone wants to try it out please PM me.
