After putting off this little project for so long I finally got around to converting an Elysian army.  Roughly 4200 points worth which includes Drop Sentinels with melta guns and Support Sentinel with rocket pods.  It took some finagling to get a hold of some of the older IG infantry units like the RTO's and such, but it was well worth the time.

Any feedback on what color schemes to use would be appreciated.  Bear in mind that I am a terribly average painter - maybe a bit below average. :oo:

Drop Sentinels were made from the older open topped models (the guy with his head sticking out) and melta guns from SM Speeders.

Supprt Sentinels were a pain in the rear.  I ended up creating a single rocket pod and then casting it about a zillion times.  Since it is so small of course half of them came out with little bubbles everywhere, but the nice thing is they don't take up a lot of resin.  Once attached, I just decorated them with brass etchings.

The bulk of the army - the infantry.  Lots o' grav chute guys mixed with others.  The fun part was converting the hardened vets with sniper rifles from Rangers.  I won't tell you how many times I cut my fingers but if you look really carefully on the front stands, that ain't red primer.

A simple way to make Sentinels look more active is to remove one of the chicken legs from the metal base and have it up in the air.  They are relatively easy to clip as long as you are mindful of the machines' toes.  Once off, you can bend them backwards to catch them in stride instead of just standing there with the bumper sticker that reads "My other non-wheeled vehicle is a Warhound".

I did it with only four of them - no real reason other than I wanted them to have a leg up on the others... :vD

:wow: these look amazing. A night cammo sounds good, possibly with a painted on glow effect in places (goggles!)?

Nice models, conversions and army choice! Be interested to see these come on

Any feedback on what color schemes to use would be appreciated.
What colour bases you want is probably an important factor in choosing a colour scheme. You could go for a scheme that camouflages for that type of terrain, making for realistic hiding, but not being able to see the models so well against the bases. Or you could go for something that contrasts and looks good together.

Another factor is whether you want the aircraft in the same scheme as the ground troops or different? One tone models or any kind of camo pattern?

Something else I do when looking for inspiration for a good colour scheme is to look to the internet. Search google images and coolminiornot for 'Elysians' and see how other people have done them and if there's a particular scheme or schemes you would like to use or adapt some or all of.

The desert/grey style FW looks good, but it could be nice to do something different. A darker grey and black urban scheme perhaps, or some kind of jungle scheme.

Have you considered joining in with a Tale of Epic Gamers painting thread for these?
