Post subject: | Help me make some tunnelers |
Hi guys, My latest project is just about drawing to a close (an epic Leviathan for my Skitarii with pics/thread to come) and I quite fancy continuing with a mechanicus feel. I really fancy making some tunnelers (probably the equivalent of Moles/termites) which I can reverse mount (yes cowgirl style) on the back of old deathstrike missile carriers. ![]() The trouble I've had is that I can't find anything plastic, pointy and with a screw thread, so I'm looking for suggestions. Can anybody think of anything that would fit the bill? The closest I've come up with are wall plugs but I haven't found a suitable one yet. Thanks for any responses |

The tunneller from the EW Mining Machine would fit perfectly. However buying the entire machine just for the tunneler is probably overkill  ![]() http://www.exoduswars.com/store/khazari ... i-267.html |

Tom did mention at one point he was considering making just the tunneller buyable separately for proxy purposes. |

You're close with rawlplugs. Plasterboard fixings have a nice chunky screw thread to them: http://www.diytools.co.uk/diy....ngs.asp |

The tip of a fairly large screw stuck onto a piece of pastic tubing with some smaller pieces of plastic rod at the bottom should do the trick. Stick on a FW brass etched Imperial eagle and a small circle of plasticard for the hatch and it should look decent. A bit more work than buying a finished piece but certainly more economic ![]() |

You're right WM From experience though screws are bloody hard things to a). clamp into a fixed position b). Saw through if anybody has any finger saving tips on how to do this I'm all ears. I thought I was onto something earlier trawling ebay for plastic toy DIY sets but it's all rounded edges and 'ealth 'n' safety. Best I found was a guy selling the drill piece from this ![]() A little on the large side though. |

Agreed. Screws are a real B**** to work with. I'm not sure if Lego has anything screw like that is less than 1 cm in diameter but I wonder if some kind of plastic toy screws exist? There must be some kind of toy carpenter kit available somewhere... |

Measuring things before I build them is a little Alien to me. Looking at the chasis I was thinking of using something with a nody about 2-2.5 cms long with a drill piece 0.5-1 cm ought to work well. Diameter wise I reckon something quite big like say clicky biro would work. |

ahh. I've actually got some that size, am using them for my neo-squats. as an example http://www.thesitebox.com/Categor....gs.aspx Any DIY shop should stock them. It's a big metal (or nylon) screw that has a hole for a real screw to then go into it. |

You can get decent looking plasterboard fixing screws in plastic. Not certain but I'd say they are actually polystyrene to boot. |

Those Lego drill bits can be picked up separately  HERE I think you can actually get them ordered direct from the Lego site along with other possibly suitable bits. *edit* Ok that link might be borked, but check eBay for the Rock Raiders drill bits. |
