The weathering on the tracks is pretty simple. just take an old brush and dip it straight in graveyard earth, blot off a little of the paint and start globbing it on the tracks. then pick out and do the same thing with scorched brown to make a more wet mud appearance. I tired drybrushing on one and it really doesn't work well

THanks man, i'll give that a go on my razorbacks that i'm working on,

Thanks y'all. A quick update, my first tactical detachment is ready for weathering and basing tonight. The techniques I was testing out worked quite effectively and the new brushes were quite awesome allowing me to pain on tactical arrows and chapter symbols in the should pads. I think I can further refine this for the next detachment. Marines are also much faster to paint up than IG. At the rate this detachment went, I could probably finish the majority of the marine infantry by the end of the week if I had the models to fill out the missile devs and marine sergeants. if all goes well I'll have some pics tomorrow.

Well busy night, got the tac detachment done and decided to start in on the three thunderhawks. Marines go so quickly compared to other stuff. I've added a pic of the warlord with the banner I put on a couple of weeks ago.

Wow! As impressive as your Warlord is (and I like the retro beetle-back when done right) I think the infantry is even more impressive. I'm amazed at how nice you have got those old square bases to turn out. What did you use to texture them? Green stuff?

p.s. Thanks for your advice on those brushes. Mine came in today and I spent a little time breaking them in. They are a vast improvement over my sable ones. (Never thought I'd be saying that!)

Looking great!

I especially like the way you placed the marines on the bases (and the bases themselves). And your detail brush obviously works perfectly... I think I need to find a stiffer brush myself as Im now inspired enough to try to paint chapter emblems on my sons of Horus-marines...

:agree:

Thanks! Glad those brushes are working out too. Well I decided to go ahead and add in a group shot, since I don't have 4 marine detachments done yet, I've plonked in the titan :) :

Thanks, y'all! Well the thunderhawks are under construction as we speak. I'm debating attaching the wing assembly now or after I paint them. I decided I don't want the landing gear on so I've thought about instead using a magnet to hold the models in place and another one to allow me to swap out the flight stick for when they land for a shorter one to make them look more hovering.

Malakai: I've been using greenstuff to texture the bases and hold the troops in place. I then go over a couple areas with fine sand or dirt and a few larger pieces to add interest. Mistakes are hidden with the foliage.
