With the AMTL hopefully restarting its development I want to fit my titans with magnets so I can mix and match their weapons.

Can anybody recommend any, preferably UK based, sources of magnets? also what size have people found works best?

I have been getting magnets from Amazing Magnets.  Unfortunately they aren't in the UK as you prefer, but they ship internationally.

For my titan weapons I have been using 3/16" (4.76mm) diameter x 1/16" (1.59mm) thick magnets.  That diameter matches nicely with the various weapon mounts on all three titan variants.  I am going to try using 1/32" (.79mm) thickness on a couple to see how those work.  Hopefully the same holding power with less bulk.

I used some 1/8" (3.175mm) diameter magnets on a couple weapons, and while it does work to hold the weapons on, they tend to spin when you move the model due to less surface area holding the magnets together.

Good luck.  It's nice being able to swap weapons around.

Got mine ages ago from this UK ebay shop.  Looks like it's shut up for a couple of weeks, though.

I always tap 'rare earth magnet' into ebay's search box.

I haven't ordered anything yet, but I was considering this place to get magnets for my wfb figs.  Might be worth a look..

Hullo Otter.
Sculpting, sculpting, slowly sculpting; working on FB ogres; buying LotR Rohan; immediately distracted by Copplestone 'horse tribes' in a more interesting scale :;):; then distracted back to my WM HE; finally giving up GW vet's night as annoying new redshirt annoys the good vets away; messing up job interviews.
And doing bugger-all Epic. :( ?Until tonight.[/hijack]

What would you recommend as a good thickness for the magnets? Also, has anyone tried to use magnets to be able to interchange heads with any success?

They're based in the US, but K&J has a good selection at reasonable prices.

I've been thinking about using this company e-Magnets, from the address you might be able to pick them up and get away without paying for the postage costs. I've been looking at the 4 x 0.5mm circular Neodymium magnets.

If you do decide to go to these guys tell me and I can pay you back at Open War

I've mounted these in the hulls:

And these in the arms:

Plenty of pull, the weapons will spin fairly easy though until you give them a few coats of paint to act as friction.

Bear in mind that magnetizing the Warhound is difficult unless you have the magnets aligned so that they attract towards each other.

When this is the case however you'll need to make separate weapons for the left and right sides, you can't use the the weapons interchangeably between sides. Unless of course you put magnets in the hulls and stick with some ferrous metal in the arms.

That's what I plan on doing.

Thanks everybody- I think I'm going to go with Tim's suggestion of e-magnets as I can pick them up.

I think I'll get a pack of 4mm x 0.5mm and a pack of 4mm x 1mm and see which works best.

I'll get you a pack Tim - 4 x 0.5, and bring them to open war

I'll share the 4mm x 1mm bag as well if you are interested in sharing the cost and finding a way to use 100 mini magnets.
