Hello all!

When I first started scouring the net for info on Epic, it was posts like this, the Diary threads, that contained what I was looking for. I wanted inspiration, ideas, and generally to know I wasn't alone when making the big yet oh so tiny step into Epic miniatures.

Thus, I'm going to post my 'blog', 'diary', whatever you want to call it, of my progress through my first Epic army: Iyanden Eldar.

This is NOT the first time I've painted small models, I do have a Warmaster army, but this IS my first 6mm game. I do have well over a dozen 40k/Fantasy armies, and some Mordhiem.

What I have for my Eldar is a ramshackle combination of almost every unit / formation. I decided I wanted it all, so didn't even bother making a list yet. I'm in it for the joy of having an enormous army - not competitive. I'll also be working on Space Marines, someday. Not now though.

First off is my Revenant Titan "conversion". Translation: it broke in transit, so is 'flying' over some rubble. I used the scenery bit from the High Elf Mounted General for Warhammer Fantasy. I snapped off part of it and it fit the base nicely.

Next is my finished Fire Prisms. They are the first formation finished for my army, as they were the first tanks I had, and I figured trying out the colour scheme would be easier on flat surfaces.

I'm fairy pleased with them, although I'm not sure if the windows are highlighted enough. I might go up to pure Enchanted, maybe even ice, just to make them pop a little.

Next up is my Guardian Formation.  I tried out a couple techniques on this formation, and think I might actually have found the one I will use. God bless Future Floor Wax.

And also here's a little closer on the Farseer stand. It looks more like a Seer council, but thats what I get for second hand models . . .

I think I may still ink the Farseer stand's brown pouches, they seem a little flat to me still.

Well thats it for now! Next up should be an Aspect Warrior Formation, all of Dire Avengers and a couple stands of Dark Reapers. I should have an army list up soon too.

Comments and criticism welcome!

Welcome mate!

Very nice looking Eldar. Please keep the pics coming. I agree that it is very inspiring to see armies (and collections) develop in this way.

Thanks for all the support, and the warm welcome.

I worked out a 'in the works' list this morning, based off of two things - what I have done, and what I think is cool. So weather this works for me, playing the guy who's teaching me (who has played since pre Epic 40k), will remain to be seen.

Guardian Warhost
3x Wraithguard

Aspect Warrior Warhost
6x Dire Avengers + Exarch
2x Dark Reapers

Aspect Warrior Warhost
6x Fire Dragons + Exarch
2x Howling Banshees + Exarch
4x Wave Serpents

2x Cobra Super Heavy Grav Tanks

3x Fire Prisms

3x Night Spinners

5x Falcons (including 2 Firestorms)

2x Revenant Titans

This comes out to a nice 3000pts. I may swap around the aspect bases, as I know I'll be looking to try out different combinations. I also want to play larger games, where I can use a massive amount of super heavies. I love the Cobras and Scorpions! One thing I'm excited about is the prospect of getting the Banshees into combat, while using the Fire Warriors FF to mess up a titan (or anything else for that matter). The visions of it running through my head far outweigh the consequences of failure.

I'm also considering loosing the night spinners (which I don't realllly want to do), for another exarch and a second Guardian Warhost. That way, I'd have two farseers, and could potentially mess some things up retaining the initiative multiple times.

More pics to come, I've almost finished both Aspect Warriors Warhosts. I've found 11 years of painting 40k and Fantasy has made painting formations a breeze.

I see your using the official elar list. Id recommend also familiarising yourself with the fan list and making sure you have the minis to use either! Both versions are used extensively.

It will be interesting which eldar list you prefer.

If you like super heavies I dare say you will not like the "revised" list. Scorpions are no longer worth taking and revenants and cobras have also been slightly nerfed. Fire prisms are totally different!

Hmm, I'd add that those comments are very much 'Rugs opinion'.  Personally I think revised Scorpions are still very good. I see Eldar players loading up on them locally and on battle reports posted here. They are just not quite such a no-brainer choice as they used to be.

Yes check out the Handbook in my sig if you like. To clarify - it's actually been developed by the people SG officially appointed to revise EA so it really is more than just a fan work, though it is that too. Apart from Rugs tourni group of about 20 people in the UK, and the French (who have made their own EA rules), all EA groups around the world that have an online presence that I'm aware of are using the EA Handbook 2008 or something very close to it. It is still in experimental form and feedback is wanted on the change proposals (especially eldar!). General Eldar changes were to tone them down as they were winning too often in their original Swordwind form.

More importantly, whatever version you play, all Epic is good!  :)  Netepic is another popular version of Epic here, being based on the SM 2nd ed rules.

I'm actually located in Canada in the GTA. My main venue is the Oakville HQ Battle Bunker.

My opponents are all using the 'standard' lists, so until we discuss it, I will be using the Swordwind list.

And if you notice, I don't even OWN Scorpions yet! I have 4 Cobras though . . .

All I am missing is Shining Spears, Warlock Titan, Scorpions and Void Serpents. Then I have every model! Usually in triplicate!

Yes, I'm insane. But I love it.

More pics to follow later today, I'll be finishing up the two Aspect Warhosts, and probably looking at the many, many extra stands lying around. Or painting tanks. Probably tanks.
