Hi all,
one of the local model shops has organized a painting and open modelling competition for fantasy/sci-fi models of ANY type and brand. Now I know I'm far from being the best rep for Epic and 6mm stuff there is, but I'm going to try to make a bit of a show with either several entries in epic scale (if the fee is low) or (if they allow me) a small non-competing mini-exhibition of epic stuff. I also intend (if Tom and Doug have no objections) to take a few DRM and EW models along. I will probably not be allowed to advertise the ranges, but if I'm asked about them...  :;):
Anyway - I'm open to suggestions and recommendations; and I promise not to take too many of the weirder odds and ends.
By the way, I'll be missing for the rest of the year (2007) and will be back on the 1st of January.
And - for aficionados - the venue is a grand one: the Malta Aviation Museum

I would definitely start with a Titan or two and then include a good variety of well-painted vehicles and infantry to show off how good an Epic army looks on the battlefield.

'Well painted' would sink me, at least in comparison to other people's work here (see Epicomp, for starters!). But the titans are always a good start I guess. I was thinking of taking the EW Droid controller and the DRM Majestic as well as an Imperator, a couple of Warlords, a Reaver, a couple of Gargants and a Khorne Warlord.

I meant "well-painted" by your standards. I try to avoid comparing my work to some of our more esteemed contributors. My skills pale in comparison.

I think what you have in mind is a good selection. The Reaver and Gargant are certainly classic epic minis and the Majestic is a fine example of newer stuff.

Sounds like a plan ! BTW, during WWII, the Italian Folgore' Airborne Div.(with supporting elements), was to do an airborne invasion of Malta after the Germans invaded Crete ... But as we know, that operation never came off ...   :D

I think well painted goes for clear and solid outlook(colors, uniforms & layout) in this case. Even colour balances are all you need for good looking figs.

Like DS wrote, I think it would be good to bring out all levels of epic with titans, vehicles, infantry and a flyer or two. SCs arent that important.

Thanks Nib.
Meanwhile - spent at least 1 hour of holiday planning entries - I will be limited by 2 things: the entry fee, and the requirement for wooden bases all round, especially as I also want my models to be gaming pieces as well.
Plan so far:
3 Tau 28mm models, and the rest are 6mm:

Epic siege titan (not the dozer blade one)
Epic Tzeentch war engine
Epic battle scene - Ork gargants vs Imperium
Epic single model or unit
DRM Majestic
DRM Andrayad diorama
EW Droid controller diorama
Bacchus tank diorama

L4, you might be disappointed - the entry price is 10Euros for the standard competition or 15Euros for the master level. Too expensive to enter more than 2 models!
And most likely, both will be in 6mm scale.

I decided on one of my two entries, and to get the best of many worlds, I'm going in for a diorama. To emphasise the size of 6mm models I'm going for a surrealist battle between Tzeentch and the Imperium, with flying weirdos and Doomwheels facing a massive barrage of Imperial artillery.

Why surrealist? I'm basing the scene in an open wooden box, the storage box for the models, which has become a battlefield for the two factions. A Baneblade and Gorgons are clambering from the Imperial to the Chaos side, whilst Doomwheels do the same on the opposite side. The warp has breached reality to supply Chaos with reinforcements, but the Imperials have a dozen Termites counterattacking and the Tau flying in. A flier from EW and a Majestic from DRM will also make an appearance, the former as an Imperial scout flier and the latter as a Tzeentch titan (the hawk head is perfect!).
My main problem - I'd like to add troops, but don't want them to be based - yet if I glue them to the board I won't be able to use them again. Ideas? I thought of magnets, but that means leaving the round bases of the models, and unless I blend them in the scenery they won't look good I also thought about spreading sand over the based troops, but I'm afraid it might be shifted during the exhibition (a good draught and.... ). Any ideas?

Model no. 2 is entirely undecided.
