Those who haven't sniffed too much polystyrene cement might remember that a year and a half ago I was working on a small Dark Angles army. The idea was that every single unit in the army should be converted somehow. Infantry stands should have no less than 3/5th of the miniatures converted and every vehicle must have some kind of modifications done to them.

Today I've tinkered a bit with the Scouts. They needed some proper snipers IMO so I've tried to modify a few EW Shadow Knights to fit the bill. The conversion is fairly straightforward: Just add two pieces of plastic rod and you're done. One one of the scouts I've tried to replace the head with that of a marine scout. However once the scope is in place noone will notice if it's a scout head or Shadow Knight head. One tip for addin the silencer is to drill a small hole in the end with a knife. that'll make it slightly more durable.

I added a few pics of the rest of the army for good measure :)

Very nice scout snipers there.

Your assault marines are a bit hard to make out, did you reposition some of their arms? and give one a thunderhammer?

And do I see a plasma cannon with your tacticals?

I have to admit, converting infantry feels very rewarding when you do it, but such small changes are almost impossible to see on the battle field.

Yes, unfortunately the details are hard to make out with the black undercoat. The Assault marines have various arm and torso repositioning. Usually repositioning the arms means carving new ones from plasticard. It's a lot easier than it might sound actually. Among the weapon conversions are storm shields, chain axes, and melta guns.

The tacticals have torso repositionings, weapon repositionings, arms and of course the heavy weapons have all been remade: Missile launchers are now bazooka style, plasma guns, and Heavy Bolters.

There's quite a bit of work in the heavies so it'll probably be a while before I have the Devastator squads ready :p

After painting an entire Untramarines chapter I thought it was a good idea to build a marine army that wasn't about massive numbers :D Basically this meant I had to come up with some other nutty thing to do to make it a little different :p

A bit more WIP on the snipers. I just ned to build two scouts with Heavy Bolters to meet my quota of 3/5 conversions. The rest will have their arms slightly repositioned as shown in the pic so they wont look as stif as the originals...

Wow! Do you use a magnifying glass to archive this detail on the sniper rifles?

I waer glasses/contact lenses too. Until now i have converted one base of Terminators with Sergeant (powersword), two with Thunderhammer&Stormshields, one with Lighnighclaws and one with Assault Cannon from the Land Speeders.

My Scouts are equipped with Heavy Bolters from Land Speeders (twobases so far). I use the metal Scouts, so repositioning of the arms was quite easy but painful for my fingertips :D

I have great respect for making sniper rifels but i really want to try :)

BTW: Land Speeders are really a great ressource for Assault Cannons, Heavy Bolters, Heavy Flamers, Multi-meltas and Cyclone Missle Launchers :D
Now i only have to find a way to use the weaponless Land Speeders  :glare:

I had heard someone mention on here that the Shadow Knights make excellent Scout snipers.  Seeing them like that they definitely do.  I'll have pick some up.

There looks to be 3 Knight poses in the blister, do only the ones firing the rifles make good conversions for Scout snipers?

Hehe :D YEah. I couldn't make the rifles any smaller since I didn't have thinner plastic rod :p :D Then again this is "Heroic" 6mm scale so... :D

The pack contains 8 snipers like the ones shown. 8 guys with swords (Which I think are prety useless as Marine proxies. However they'll look great in a cultist/LaTD army), and 4 guys in a squatting position without weapons. These last 4 guys might be converted into spotters with a bit of work.
Basically the sniper remains the most usefull model in the pack IMO, as it could also easily be used as an IG sniper
