im having trouble with shading, i used watered down paint on that model it looked great when wet but once dry it looked odd.
it didnt stay in the nooks and crannies.

what suggestions have u got fot shading?
ive got seriously old inks from GW i think they are dead they dont work well.
should i get new inks? where from?

il finish it tommorrow and il post pics.

cheers for the link i had heard about the varnish but now ive seen other people vouch for it il give it a try.

many thanks

I like to snow camo.  And yes I have been having the same problem with the shading, but have been having better luck by adding the drop of dish washing liquid to my mix :D .  Keep up the good work and by the way love seeing the old school basilisk (I just recieved a few of those myself).

i eventually tried washing up liquid and it worked well,
the first attempt i had shaded with brown ink and it looked pants so i stripped it and started again with a new aproach:

this is a thin coat of Dheneb Stone over white spray undercoat, shaded with a 1-2 mix of Dhened stone and one of the browns from the foundation set thinned with water and washing up liquid.

the raised/flat areas were painted with 1-1 Dheneb and brown and finally highlighted with Dheneb on the edges.

what do you chaps think?

Looks really nice, both schemes look great, but I think I like the snow camo best.  Keep it up.  :)

now i can get the look i want with the paint thin enough i might try the snow one again and put some contrasting colour on the desert scheme to compare.

then its on to the guardsmen!

Nice work!  I didn't realize it would be possible to pull off such nice washes with foundation inks!

i did have to water it down a lot but it means u use less paint because of the high pigment.

Those look great. It's always good to see old Basilisks.

I think I like the snow best. I'm already planning a second guard army of Valhallans... But they both look good to me. Given that I'd probably base my decision on speed.
