Despite there are no rules for it I started a new project, the Malcador heavy battletank:

Any ideas for rules?

Looking great already!

I came up with some quick test stats for the Malcador in a Vraksian Traitors armylist: http://elf.planetquake.gamespy.com/Epic/Vraks1.01.pdf

VEry very nice redram!

As for rules- my take on this would be that his is an infantry tank, ie more heavily armoured and also much slower than a russ.  An inf tank should move around as fast as Inf can walk so 15cm move, poss 20 cm if thats too slow.

Weapons self explanatory- 6 Heavy bolters and a demolisher (poss Fixed Forwards), FF 3+ to represent oodles of HB.  Poss even 2+.

Armour is where it gets difficult.  A russ has 4+ Reinf, a Macharius 4+ Reinf and DC2.  THis should lie between the two in my mind.  Clearly having DC2 is not appropriate given the size of this.  Would 4+ Reinf plus TRA be enough?  Or how about breaking precedent and going to 3+ TRA?

Personally I would go for 3+ RA plus TRA so, my pass at the rules:

----

Malcador 15cm Move  Armour 3+ CC 6+, FF 3+

6 x Heavy Bolter 30cm AP 5+
Demolisher  30cm AP3+/AT4+ IC

Notes- TRA and RA

Oh, and for the Male version the secondary weapons look variable between Lascannon and ?Heavy Stubber?  Gone here for a lascannon heavy variant:

Malcador 15cm Move  Armour 3+ CC 6+, FF 5+

Battle Cannon 75cm AP4+/AT4+
3 x Lascannon 45cm AT5+

Notes- TRA and RA

Perfect!
So we just need the pointvalue... :;):

3+ RA is REALLY powerful.  Think about a holofield save, then think about getting it twice in a row on a single AV.

Stats wise that is only about an 11% chance of a kill (more than twice as good as a LR).

Joker:

The Malcador tank does have DC-2 in 40k, the same as a Macharius. It's armour value is somewhat less though IIRC.

It also has 7x Heavy Bolters.

IIRC TRA is not appropriate.

I went with 350pts for three in my proposed stats, but they've never been tested.

*Imagines 3x Malcador tanks sustaining fire against an infantry formation*

The battle cannon version is part of the plan  :;):
There will be 5 different molds:
1. hull
2. track left
3. track right
4. casemate for the heavy bolter version
5. casemate for the battle cannon version

Note that the male (Battle cannon) version of the Malcador has Lascannons in the sponsons instead of Heavy Bolters.

Redram, I'm curious - how long did it take you to complete the steps shown in the first set of photographs?

Something about 12 hours...

The detailing of the tracks and the casemate took another 3-4 hours, to this status:
