Post subject:  The start of a Waaagh!

Hi guys,

I?ve been lurking here for a few days now admiring the pictures in the Epic Painting and Modelling section.

I used to play Space Marine years ago. I stopped playing for a while when I moved away from my gaming group. Then sometime in the 90?s I walked into a GW store and there was Epic 40K. I bought it and was subsequently really disappointed with the game, as far as I was concerned GW had spoiled a perfectly good game by making it unrecognisable from the Epic I used to play and love. I promptly put all the stuff in storage and thought I would never play it again.

A year or two later I was in GW again and they were selling off all their epic stuff at half price. So I bought boxes of the stuff. I always hoped that I would be able to play Space Marine again sometime in the future with my old gaming buddies. All these went into storage as well. At this time I didn?t have internet access and I had no idea that there was an online Epic community.

Then the other day I found myself on the Specialist Games sight and they had a new version of Epic called Epic Armageddon (well it?s new to me anyway). I downloaded it and I was pleasantly surprised with the rules. In addition I have found Netepic as well and that looks really good to boot.

Finding EA and Netepic happens to coincide with me hooking up with a couple of my old Space Marine gaming group, we?ve all moved back into the same area. So it looks like Epic is back on for us

Things aren?t all rosy though. Over the years I have given away or sold most of my collection. I sold about 4KG of epic stuff on eBay a few years back. On top of that I seem to have misplaced all of my painted stuff. Epic has always been one of my favourite games, and I only sold my unpainted collection because I really needed the money at the time. I?m really, really regretting it now ?:(

Finding such a great internet community that supports the game is just brilliant and so far I?ve really enjoyed reading the posts on this forum. So I decided that I should contribute as this is what makes this place so good. So I had a good dig around my miniatures collection and I managed to lay my hands on a few unpainted pieces that I still had tucked away and my first Epic eBay purchase (40 old style Battlewagons) just arrived.

So here it is, the beginning of a new Epic era for me ?:) Everything is unpainted as I have literally just started this army with the scraps I had left over. I?m converting all of the old battlewagons, so it will take some time to complete this lot. I thought I would take pictures and post my progress on this thread so you all can see how things develop.

Da Boyz, some are looking the wrong way ?:(

The Warboss and the Nobz and the first of many converted battlewagons.

So there you have it. The start of my Waaagh! I hope to update this post often with progress reports  :)

TG

Great stuff
I particularly like the battlewagon second from the left. The missile shooting Fighta Bommer is a very nice touch too :;):

Welcome to the boards, TG! I'm always happy to see a veteran Epic player returning to the ranks.

I love your battlewagon conversions. I also like your creative stands. I'm looking forward to seeing your Boyz painted.

Grand work TGun - the battlewagon conversions are fantastic, and using resistors is a grand idea :) :)
Just a hint on the missile-firing fighta-bomma - for lots of smoke, try using pipe cleaners :)

Great job on the bases, and I can;t wait to see what the half-Stompa will become :)

What did you use for bases?

I think you're going to fit in verry well around here. :D

Excellent stuff.  Judging by the brilliant battlewagons, I guess you cut your own bases from plasticard?

I have a very similar story to you... Welcome back Turret Gunner.

Your Orks are very inspiring (even at this early stage). Well done mate.

Hey guys, thanks for the warm welcome and compliments. I just got back from working my bar shift and I like to unwind for an hour or two surfing the net looking at figures or converting/ painting stuff.

I?m pleased that you guys like the battlewagons. I?m kind of forced into making them as I can?t justify buying the FW or GW ones at the moment, they are lovely but I?m saving my money for a new car. Besides converting these is fun ?:D

Just a hint on the missile-firing fighta-bomma - for lots of smoke, try using pipe cleaners ? ?

Thanks for the tip. I?ve already started sculpting the smoke, but will try the pipe cleaners on the next ones as it looks really good ?:)

What did you use for bases?

As Vermis rightly guessed, they are cut from 1mm plasticard. They are 30mm x 20mm.

Love those battlewagon conversions.....might have to nick a few of your ideas!

I?m flattered, please steal away :D

Your Orks are very inspiring (even at this early stage). Well done mate.

One of the things that made me get off my butt and take these pictures was because of how generous everyone is here when it comes to sharing ideas and encouraging each other with projects. I?ve been so inspired by everyone?s work here that I thought it was only fair to contribute to the forum myself ?:)

These look great, especially like the greenstuffed bases.

The firing missile idea for the Fighta Bomba is also going on my 'great idea must steal it' list.
