Bit of a mix of stuff here

Was fiddling about with this over the weekend, having done the armature a week ago. I was planning to do this with step-by-step pictures to encourage anyone who wanted to try 6mm sculpting.
However, on reflection it might not help much as it is section-by-section rather than showing how to *do* each bit, which i think might be more helpful? Will try to do that more next time make something. (Not decided what to arm him with yet, was the beastie i was most interested in anyway. toes and front legs need a bit extra still as well)

Did this test piece middle of last year and never posted, but it's relevant to kyuss' RC blacks which we've talked about, so here it is. I'd wanted to try to get a good black using just dry-brushing techniques (so ignore the silver and white details, those are just there for contrast)). I was following Vaaish's black as a model – didn't end up looking like that, but not a bad effect for fast painting either. At some point ill roll this out over my BT army, hopefully refining on the way:

2016 is meant to be my year of knights, but i've yet to any paint on any knights this year!
This is what I ended up amassing for the army:

(if anyone has any 'paladin 1' Errants from this era im still looking for more!)

And this was the test formation in epicomp:

From that ill be keeping the white constant across the army, but assigning each formation (or formation type, undecided) a different secondary colour. These are a bit annoying for me to paint, as i can;t just drybrush them :(

Just got out the paints for the first time this year … silver up first …

*edit, photobucket shrank my greenstuff pic, here it is agian …

Do you use vaseline to allow sculpting on the GS?

No, don't think i've ever tried it and can't see the appeal. Still get situations where GS will only stick to the tool, not the mini, or the mini not the tool, or whatever it isn't meant to stick to. However, that is only really a problem with *tiny* elements like short sections of <0.5mm rope. I think id find it more hassle to keep wiping vaseline off the mini and tools.

I have tried a range of other putties. After my first weak attempts at 6mm inf pro create was recommended, but I didn't really get on with it personally. I can't recall the name of the stuff khronos uses, but I tried that and didn't like it either (even though I can see he gets amazing results with it). Dislike milliput fine white intensely (sticky and slimy and and slurries too easily and eugh), but like using milliput standard – though probably not for infantry. The problem with mixing putty at this scale and doing it in the very occasional way I do, is that I only mix minute amounts at once. So 2 lots of 2-part putties is then 4 tiny pieces to mix and balance proportions of.

From the admittedly limited number of full sculpts i've done (like the above), I think the armature makes a biiig difference. I find the armatures a pain to do (probably easy to improve with practice), but once approximately correct that's a big part done. At this scale a couple of sausages smooshed onto the armature and then it's mostly details, which are primarily made of basic solids with lines and dimples pressed into them.

sub-pico scale infantry test. More than 3* smaller than epic scale. Top of his helmet is shy of 2mm (which is why he looks a tad rough …).

ever wanted a thunderbrick to look true scale? well then, this is your man …

If you out magnets on the bottom you can make a tower of rhinos?
