I've not been feeling to well the last couple of days so haven't really got much done. I've started work on a Scorpion and a StormSerpent for my army to break up the work on the two Revenants that are going a touch slow, hate to feel that I'm not going anywhere so with models I'm going to take a long time on I like to have other quicker stuff going on at the same time. This morning as I've not been feeling up to painting I've been modeling the SHT's bases. I popped into the local railway and model shop yesterday and picked up a long pipe and a rod of H section to use on them. Here's a picture of what I've come up with.

I'll drill in the whole for the SHT once they are dry in about 3 hours, then I'll paint and flock them. I'll stick up a picture when they are done.

The bases look good, by the way.

Thanks, I'm getting there. I think it was a mix of tiredness due to insomnia, a really annoying cold sore that has been running me down and a dodgy pie that wasn't heated properly. I'm feeling much better today, must remember to drink water.

When working with big models like SHTs the ink/paint/hardcoat mix can blotch. It's better than using ink or paint on their own, but still is not perfect. For this reason some fixing needs to be done for instance there is a patch of blotching next to the right intake of the Stormserpent. It took me a while to work out how to fix this. The trick is to mix up some paints as close to the mid point and highlight colour as you can get. Now however hard you try you can't quite get the same finish, Ink does not quite quite react to light the same as paint. so once you have fixed the blotching with these two mixes you will need to put a thin wash of the original ink mix over the area to match it in with the rest of the model.

I don't know how I missed this thread for the past week.  :confuse:

I like the group pic of all the painted minis. Impressive looking army.

Also, I'm really looking forward to seeing those Revenants completed.

OK so I took the Stormserpent after the initial spray and wash and did the following stages

1) repair the blotches with the two mixes I have made. Didn't bother fixing the bits I'm  going to paint different colours.
2) hi light edges and raised areas with a mix of skull white and hardcoat
3) put a watered down wash of the original mix over the top of the SHT, to tie it all together.

The next stage on this SHT is to start the white plates.

1) First I inked the cracks around the white plates with brown ink being carefull not to taint the yellow areas.

2) inked in between the fins on the underside.

3) painted the plates with bleached bone.

4) put brown ink around the gems. and into the vents on the side.

5) highlighted the plates with bleached bone mixed with white. Now you could mix lots of succesively lighter shades but this takes a lot of time so I use what is called wet blending. I paint around the edges with a 50/50 white, bleached bone mix and then I wet the brush a little and pull the colour out of this line, which if you do it correctly will give you a smooth blend quickly.

Thanks Legion. Didn't get much done tonight, spent most of the night playing around with our camera, 2 flashes, reflectors, little umbrellas , cables, RAW files, level editors and all kind of other gadgets to try and get a good picture for the Epicomp and more importantly to try and work out how to use the camera properly. I think this was the best picture.

luckily I'm not working tommorow so should get my 2nd StormSerpent done and maybe even my Avatar.

The problem with painting at a high level of detail, is it takes a long time ! ?But I'd rather take my time a turn out a "good" piece, then rush ! ? But again, these Eldar are excellent ! ?And in the old days (SM1), the Eldar could ally with the SM/IG/Squats if fighting Chaos ... so sometimes we had SMs and the pointy-eared Xenos side by side ! ?:D

I would have had picture of the 2nd finished Stormserpent up tonight but I couldn't get the flash to fire. I'll have to see if I can get my girlfriend to sort it out tomorrow morning. She has a better idea of how her camera works.

To keep your interest here are some more pictures of my Battleforce entry for the Epicomp
