The areas painted in metal, plus the weapon shrouds on the turrets in chapter colours, the main structure in blue-grey as in the example. I think that'd look excellent.

Looks good painted!

I wonder whether these would look best painted like neutral stone, or in bright chapter colours? e.g. Ultramarine's blue.

Some banners on flagpoles above the keep could look good too.

I think a chapter/legion colour scheme on it would look great and i may do that sometime. The scheme i followed was FW's which is a bit generic but with a iron warriors feel to it with the metallic and hazard stripes.

Grey is a little bland but hey it's the imperium all the building/fortifications are grey. :)

Cheers

Got these resins recently from AB and i think they will make great ork buildings. The newest two designs on the left of the picture combine the traditional orky adobe style with the newer scrap style which i think makes a great transition between the old and the new. Ork town here we come. :)

Some of my old goth clan orks added for effect.

It's been awhile since my last post but i have not been un-productive infact i've been working on several projects at once but it has meant i've had little finished to show and still haven't.

So just a quick update with a model from one of these projects. A test scheme for the heresy era World Eaters, with this project i want to do some big formations so i have gone for a simple finish which will hopefully speed up painting over all. The base colours are painted over a black undercoat and highlighting and weathering have been kept to a minimum.

The base has been a problem as i wanted to be able to use these models for the Isstvan III and V battles which obviously needed different base finishes. So i have compromised here with an earth patches and rubble/rocky look. My Isstvan V battles will use my Vraks muddy battlefield terrain when it's done as this will save me making another terrain layout. And the rubble/rocks will look ok on an urban ruins board.

Nice, what's the basing material (or mix of) on that?

That's easy mate just your ordinary builders sand :) you know the stuff you mix with concret. I have an ice cream tub full of the stuff. I used to use it on my 40K scale bases years ago and it's been buried in the back of the cupboard ever since. Because i needed a more varied finish on these bases i decided to have a go with the old sand i had to hand.

I just put the model in the tub sprinkled the finer grade on in a few places by hand and then buried the rest of the base which gave me some smoother areas and a nice random finish on the remaining parts.
