WOW! It's a chocopocalypse!
That looks immensely tasty, but I'd be wary about carving a piece out. :D

Working on the new EW aircraft, I thought I'd try a little experiment.

Instead of the usual way of painting cockpit windows I wanted to try something different, that would be vaguely reminescent of the metallic copperish coating you sometimes see on aircraft cokcpits and astronaut vizors.

Using metallic colors makes it a bit trickier to photograph but I thought the result was kind of interesting. Basically it isChaos black/tin bitz, Tin bitz, Dwarf Bronze and dwarf bronze mixed with some mithril silver. Finally a white dot for the reflection as usual.

Worth exploring further? Or should I just go with the usual blue glass technique?

I like the coloration very much as an alternative for the blue glass technique, although it depends on the overall color scheme of the model.
Maybe the last layer is a bit too bright? I think the stage on the left picture is almost enough.

Very nice idea!

I agree the last layer is a bit much. You may also want to start with a metallic basecoat, whether tin bitz or 50/50 tin botz/black. Especially in the second pic, the transition between metallic and nonmetallic breaks the illusion.

Looking at what you've got, I'd say that it needs a bit more pop. maybe try mixing the metallics with your regular colors to add to the tint rather than just using tin bitz? It worked pretty well with my necrons a while back although that wasn't trying to emulate glass.

Another thing would be to treat the entire bank of windows as a single reflective object and do NMM with metallics over them. Might help it read more as glass if you do that.

Yes, because I can't figure out how to do it and I've been trying for awhile now. :D

I was looking at my old Tallarn army and considering ways to sexy it up a bit.

I never really liked the Bombard models. Each version - including the FW version has had some things going for it, but there has always been some parts that irked me. I had some bombard conversions made from surplus bombard guns put on chimera chassis, but that never really worked either. Taking a fresh look at the models I decided to try sonething new, but with the criteria that I could do the conversion without having to repaint anything. The result borrows some aspects from all Bombard versions and is very simple to do, but I think it looks a bit more balanced.

On a different note, I think I'm going to give my entire Tallarn army a wash of Devaln Mud. Perhaps my eyesight has deteriorated. Perhaps the paints have faded. Or perhaps it is just my preference for contrast that has changed. But I gotta admit that I like how the wash ties the models better together. Like others have said, it feels a bit like cheating since it is so easy, but then again: It doesn't always have to be difficult to make something look good.
