I didn't realize there was such a scale difference with the FW GK Dred and the GW one. Wow...

Btw, looks good WMN! ;)

Got a bit bored so I decided to drybrush a couple of buildings I made a while ago. It's the Adeptus Titanicus foam buildings with some cardboard and a couple of Otterware bits stuck on. Nothing too fancy but they'll do the trick on a tabletop. I'll probably touch up the windows (some grey paint spilled into some of them) and make some metal doors later on.

Nice use of the Old AT buildings ... That's closer to the size that real structures are ...

Yeah. I've grown more and more fond of large buildings for terrain. I understand why it may not be practical for manufacturers that have to factor in costs and shipping to make stuff this size - especially if they'd been massive resin -, but I think it does more for the urban feel when even titans can hide behind buildings.

To disguise the foam bubbles I first dabbed the entire building with an old half dry acrylic paint I had. This added a more stone like texture. However it also means that the drybrushing inevitably becomes somewhat cruder than if you'd been working on an entirely smooth surface. I like the designs of those foam buildings, but it would indeed have been aswome if they'd been made in a material that would hold detail better. I've tried to compensate by adding some bits, like brass etched eagles, skull icons, green stuff moulded roof vents from the SM2 buildings, and even a couple of statues from BFG ships. Still they're obviously nowhere as good as a building made entirely from card, plastic or resin.

They look great, I also really prefer large/more realistic scale buildings :)

Thanks. Currently painting up an updated version of the Generator Vulcanis from the Titan Legions box. Just need to paint some pipes, windows and add a bit of weathering.

I've got a load of those old buildings, I'm using Revell Plasto to fill the gaps between the buildings and give them a smooth finish (although not to the front). Once it's dry it can be sanded to a very smooth finish (makes a lot of dust though).

is someone probably willing to sell me one of these? I'd like to try and make my own cast.

cheers,

Nice buildings Jordell. My main beef with these is, like I said the clearly visible texture of the foam balls. Some might like these if you want a cobblestone look, but for a concrete facade I found them rather annoying. The filling definitely helps on larger surfaces though. I just picked the quicker solution of adding cardboard, which also makes it fairly easy to make a roof similar to the Forgeworld Librarium building.

Also: Here's a little WIP of the Generator Vulcanis. Still need to add a few more details and paint the base. I'll snap a proper pic tomorrow when it is finished and lighting conditions are better.

Looks great. The old cardboard building has always been a fixture on our gaming table, it'd be great to have a better looking replacement! I did try to model it in 3D for fabbing, but never got round to finishing it. I think I might have a try the old fashioned way, your version is excellent.

Ooh. Now there's an idea... 3d modelling those facades would indeed be awsome. I think you would be able to pick out quite a bit of the detail and even if the finished piece is no more than about half a centimetre thick it would look very convincing when drybrushed. I tried building on top of the cardboard with the print as a blueprint with the other large imperial building (forgot the name. Administrantum building maybe? It's the one with the two towers) Trouble is that back in the days I used wood as a building material so it is also a bit rough. By the way I also rebuilt that model a while ago. It still sits on a shalf waiting for paint, but I suspect it might be next on my to do list.

Hm. If someone has a scan of those facades it just might be a good opportunity to start dabbeling a bit with 3d modelling. Building something like that which consists of fairly simple shapes might just be simple enough for me to be able to figure it out... :p

I should be able to dig them out and scan them, depending on how much real life impinges on my hobby time this week :-)
