As we all know, scratch-building at epic scale is all about precision, detail and neatness. I thought all this through with the start of my next epic project, then promptly forgot.

it begins:

Having got this far, it occurred to me it might be in danger of overbalancing/falling over, so I took pre-emptive steps:

But what if it falls over the other way :o

Good. Solid now, not gonna fall over. With firm foundations in place I felt secure in adding a cone:

… long term project this ;)

huh … i hadn't thought of that. Those are FW thunderbolt wings and unrelated to the project, just happened to be building 4 tbolts to use with my AMTL.

your usual pin point accuracy

I used a lump hammer while trying out a variation part for this project that didn't work … not a tool i've employed in the name of epic before. All i got very a very squished brass tube, but not squished quiiiiite how i wanted it :(

I'm going to guess at a titan scratchbuild. Stompy, stompy!

Already envious of your skills, I'm expecting to be sobbing into my paint brushes after you finish this.

Nope, not a titan :spin Now for something different, or, well it is *sort* of related to the above, anyway …

Two things to be said about this. First, I recon it's in the top 5 pieces from the dark age of forum tech, second I absolutely hate […ed painting] it. Been painting it on and off for months, getting fed up, putting it away, deciding I need to finish it etc. How moredakka did 4 of them is beyond me.
Image
(yeah, i know, it's a stupid place to land a drop pod, risk of burning lava death etc etc)
Image
After all that I came to basing it, smeared milliput all over the place, not worrying about fingerprints because, hey, I was going to add lava paste. Then I found I don't have my lava paste with me, so here it is at an in-between stage of basing.
