So, what exactly are those rivets on the lower edge of the arm gusset (supporting braces) there for? Is it to make it look 'detailed'?

Seriously, if you want it to look realistic and functional, put a flange on the bottom edge of the arm brace gusset (in this case, a raised rim would work). Every other slab of metal on the thing has a raised edge, why not put one where it actually would contribute to the strength of the part (that goes for both the fiction giant robot case and in the small resin toy case). Rivets to nowhere look somewhat goofy.

Hey Jonluke its great to see work on this again.

How does the arm elevate the gun up and down, from the shoulder or elbow?

I added this detail earlier:

Technically the machine would elevate the arm from the "elbow" and from the "wrist" but for model purposes it will only be the "wrist" joint that is posable - thats a ball joint between the arm and the gun itself.

I'm pretty pleased with the arm sections like this, but I'm toying with putting some hydraulics in underneath. what do you guys think?

Looks mean! I tend to agree. A bit of hydraulics or something to beef the arms up slightly sounds like a good idea.
The models now definitely has that squareish Warlord look it should have.

That is looking absolutely gorgeous - big, hulky and moody.  Said it before but those hips joints are something else, fantastic stuff dude!  Keep it up!

I agree with chunky-ness/cabling/gubbinz around the arm joints would look wicked.

Cheers for the compliments and I agree, it's looking really mean now, itching to have a physical version standing on my desk to play with!
I'm just getting a quote for the printing now, cross fingers it's not too horrible.

I think adding hydrolics would beef up the arms which isn't a bad thing, however doing that would accent the small diameter of the waist which is already looking fragile with the great bulk of the carapace and weapons it is supporting above it and the wide hips beneath.

Or maybe with the emergency vents/exhausts the other way up:

How about a cut in the armour (complete with trimming) and vents recessed?
