0.1mm photoetch microsaws. ?If you like cutting up and re-arranging plastic stuff they are the bomb. ?

They dont really cut through anything, but what they do cut through you can put back together and not be able to tell it's in 2 pieces :)

They also cut lead fine, and will do white metal but they're not real happy about it. ?I suspect you'd lose the teeth fairly quickly if you did a lot of the latter.

No, I won't need any moles or shrews to do this.

It sounds like we have a critical mass.

Vermis, what would you charge as commission for...

An item extremely similar to the initial piece in this article,

But with the backpack items socketed (1 mm brass peg on the extension part, 1mm holes in the bacl)

And with some sort of socketed left arm or socketed weapon?

In addition, you may wish to choose a series of conditions:

1) The flat fee is all you get. All profit goes to the investor, me.

or 2) You get a flat fee, plus a portion of each 'sale'. To properly implement this, you will have to trust me, or all sales will have to go through you.

or 3) You create the pattern, and pay me to manufacture at small scale.

I pulled $5 per model out of thin air.

That's close, when you consider that a FW Hammerhead, is about 2.50 pound sterling, or $5 US.

"But wait!" one might say, "one's a tank, and the other's an infantry commander!"
"Duh," I counter, "but the level of difficulty is the same. Both have four parts, and most of the parts are very small and fiddly. In home shop resin work, the smaller something is, the harder it is to mold and cast."

On this topic, there are three primary variables in resin work.

The number of pieces: the fewer, the better. Fewer pieces makes for simpler shapes, though.

The size of the pieces: at one end of the spectrum, very small pieces are hard to cast successfully using low-tech methods, and the extra labor means low throughput. At the other end of the spectrum, very large items consume a great deal of resin.

The complexity of the pieces: more fiddly bits means greater difficulty in creating a faithful mold. A large number of indentions tend to give the mold more opportunity to tear and degrade. Small pieces are difficult to get air-free (once again, low tech here).

Grble...

Right. ?A few answers from me.

It sounds like we have a critical mass.

Vermis, what would you charge as commission for...

An item extremely similar to the initial piece in this article,

But with the backpack items socketed (1 mm brass peg on the extension part, 1mm holes in the bacl)

Multi-part 6mm infantry! ?What are ya, Forgeworld? :p

Seriously face on: I was thinking of doing it as a single piece mini, a simplified version 'flattened' as much as possible into a single plane. ?But if you want multi-parts, I can give it a shot. ?Peg-and-socket is how I attached the backpack bits anyway.

As for price, I'm not greedy. ?Not yet, anyway. ?Though looking at all the demand is having it's effect. ?But as it's a 'limited run' for TacCommers (anyone else?), I'm not going to go too high. ?Does $150 sound acceptable? ?With maybe a couple of small conditions, below.

Option 1 is doable. ?Though on top of that I'd like to ask for return of the original sculpt if possible and inclusion of a number of production casts. ?10-15, perhaps.

A couple of questions of my own: do you want impose any deadline on this? ?And do you (and other TacCommers) want me to use the same design, or to make any modifications, inclusions, or exclusions?

And, out of curiosity, what are you going to cast it in?

After seeing this, I have no doubt, one day we will all be buying minis sculpted by Vermis.

I believe I called this one.

Thanks for the answers, Vermis.

And now, points of practicality:

1) It's not trivial for me to do this. A typical run of a mold for me is 20 castings, and not all castings produce acceptable product.

2) Throughput is low, due to time constraints. I can compensate by making multiple molds. By low, I mean 1 usable casting per day. Ponder that when you see my giant box of Imperator pieces.

It will be cast in resin. While the molds can handle pewter, I have no experience with it.

There will be no immediate deadline; a time scale of 1 to 3 months is preferred. The payment will will be part up front, part on completion.

The original will be returned.

For the record I would also be interested in a couple of these for fleshing out my inquisitors body guard :)

Please. We also need to do some more bartering via email - you have a pile of stuff I'm after, but me not so much.

And great, now there's a crapload of new tools I want to buy.
