After measuring the 40K model I'll start again from scratch now ...

How much 'bigger' is it?

Not too much, see attached picture of the new side.

grey parts are the new ones, yellow and dotted lines mark the old one ...

Redesigning is a pain in the butt, but all too common. If you make the bronze too early, you'll kick yourself until you make another one.

So, it's better to get maximum satisfaction the first time.

Having said that, you will probably redesign the wheels when you get your 40K model.

Got side-tracked playing boggle with my housemate for a while, but now have those photos at last:

I actually prefer the sg size there, though its still hard to imagine them all fitting in!

I'm the other way - poorer detail and more flash/wonky angles aside, the SG one looks like they took a proper Rhino and slightly crushed it with a heavy even weight on top to be wider and flatter than it should be.

If you're used to it it can look ok, but when you see how it should be and how it could have been it comes off the poorer.

Agreed none of them look like they could actually hold 10 marines, but that's just the way they are in W40k and the scale all GW tanks are compared to the infantry.

Their is a big variantion in sizing for APCs and IFVs int he real world, though most countries are constrained by transport requirements, though tactically the lower the better (leading to a fatter vehicles to fit everything in).

Heres a Jordanian cheap and cheerful APC.

Plus the FW Rhino has more detail, like rivets, headlights, and even detailed track links.

Oh I'm not denying the detail, merely commenting on the size :)

But then Marines often paint their tanks in bright primary colours - they tend to want their enemies to see them and to be afraid of the Emperor's finest, rather than being bothered about concerns like making their tanks low to hide from being seen/shot at.

Well the G/W Rhino looks a lot like a UK FV 432 or my "beloved" M113 APC ...  A marginal design at best.  But it served the purpose.                    As far as the SMs painting their AFVs & body armor in circus colors ... well I think you all know my feelings on that ... :glare:  Making the [so called] Emperor's Finest easily aquired targets  makes no sense what so ever to me. :(  But again, you all know my background ...      :vD    My only fear when seeing a bright Red, or Orange enemy AFV is that I'd be afraid of the haranging I'd get if my AT weapon missed it ... 8v)

Looking good. I don't know for sure from the casting end of things, but it might be a good idea to make the rivets more cone shaped than cylindrical to help them come out of the mold easier.
