More work on the Zeppelin (Will post pics tomorrow).

A question for the armament:
I've built a large gun port in the side of the gondola. Question is what sort of gun to stick in there. As it is the side armament is 4 blitzen guns (for AA), 8 quad mounted autoiguns (AA and AP) and a number of turret mounted weapons (Bolters and lascannons) and a bomb rack (Could be AT or AP). So the question is: Should I add a twin linked Turboi Laser (AT/TK) or some kind of howizer (More AP mainly)?

I've begun thinking a bit about rules for this thing. I don't think it woud be suitable as a flyer so it would probably be better using skimmer rules. Because of it's size it shoudn't be alowed to make pop up ?attacks and be unable to make use of cover. It would also be fairly slow moving. This would make it most suiteble for static warfare or a slow sledgehammer type advance.

I'm not really sure about the toughness of the beast. I don't think it should have a particularly high armor value. However it could either have an extremely high DC or alternatively a fairly harmless critical making it very difficult to bring down. I remember watching a program about the prospect of using airships for military service. ONe of the main selling points were that the ariship could actually take a very considerable amount of ground fire and still keep afloat and once it did crash it would do so slowly increasing pilot survivability. (Obviously a long way from the Hindenburg style hydrogen airships :D )

I think a turbo laser would be more appropriate. The recoil from a howitzer might be problematic. I'll agree that the armor value should be low. I think a high DC would be the best way to go.

I concur about the high DC/low-critical hit.

Regarding the howitzer recoil, how do AC-130 gunships handle their recoil?

Mu guess would be that airspeed velocity (of an african swallow :p ) makes some difference...though I'm not really an expert on kinetics or balistics or whatever that's all about. :D

Anyway that sort of thing isn't my main concern; It is a fantasy universe after all. It's more about what would be most interesting from a games perspective. I would tend to lean towards the Turbo Laser myself.

I guess recoil wouldn't really be an issue. I think a Turbo Laser would be appropriate to give it some TK capability.

Worked with AC-130s, they have recoil systems on their guns, like any other weapon ... so that should not be a problem ...   However, I'd put lasers on the Zep !  For many reasons ... :D

Two crappy pics but you get the general idea. Just the flak guns missing but I've added some matchsticks to give some idea of what it s going to look like.

...And of course I just had to misplace the propellers for the engines. I had made a nice little bag with those special parts so I wouldn't lose them. Well guess what happened...  :glare:

move 5cm, armour 1+ (reinforced)

DC- many many many, Special rule- Shock and awe: 1+ opposing army runs off/dies of terror, shock and awe :D
