Well I've done a little upgrading on some of my Titans (pics later) but thanks to a ForgeWorld stuff up (they've sent the wrong Reaver Titan...twice! ) I've added this little fellow to the Legion.

I actually melted the Rhino and crimped it with a pair of pliars to make it look like a very heavy war machine just stomped it.

I'm still figuring out light sourcing.

Anyway, here tis.

Nifty, almost makes those forgeworld reavers look good enough to get. Must be the old school weapons on him :)

Marvellous work Onyx. I'll be melting a Rhino or two myself at some point.

Dude, what's taking you so long? All of us mastered that long ago.

Fantabulous work Onyx! Particularly love what you’ve done with your titans  I’ve just come across and read this whole thread today, whilst rebasing and sorting through my armies.

I love the great use of the ink washes to get the naturalistic effect. How do you find the woodland scenics washes compare to the GW inks? Do you think they’re better? You mentioned them not looking so shiny I think at one point, but would you say the effect is still noticeable once GW ink has been given a coat of testors dullcote?

I’ve never tried lighting effects myself yet (though I plan to in future on a particularly weird and chaotic War Altar of Tzeentch I have conceptualised), but to my eye it might look a little better if a little of the blue glow were on the topside too – on the ridge of the metal surrounding the plasma bit.

How do you do the blue areas on your titans? Is it just blue, dry-brushed metal (and white?) and then washed black? Do you wash just the blue or paint everything and wash the whole lot at once?

You might have seen it already, but if not check out here for a truly stunning example of lighting effects by Golden Demon winner Victoria Lamb: http://www.coolminiornot.com/37085

Thanks guys.

GlynG - I've never used GW inks so I can't really comment on a comparison with W.S. pigments.

With the blue on the titans:
- I usually basecoat in matt black
- paint the metal areas with Boltgun Metal
- paint the blue areas with Ultramarines Blue
- drybrush with Chainmail for a more worn/battlefield look
- use Shining Gold, Brazen Brass and Golden Yellow for details
- wash the whole thing with W.S. Black pigment
- use Vellejo Old Gold for highlighting on golden areas
- use chainmail for highlighting on silter areas (and hydraulic rams)
- basecoat the cockpit windows with Skull White
- use Tamiya acrylic Clear Red over the white (this technique helps the red really stand out)
- basecoat the plasma weapons and glow reflections with Skull White
- use Tamiya acrylic Clear Blue over the white
- paint the red and white stripes using Bleached Bone and Red Gore
- drybrush around the red/white stipes using Chainmail to simulate worn paint
- Seal with Testors Dulcote.

Hope that helps.

I'm halfway through my last 2 Warhounds and I'm waiting for FW to finally send me the right Reaver to finish off my titans.

I've also painted an AI Ork Blasta Bommer which I will be using as an Ork Landa. I really like this model and I always enjoy painting Ork stuff (you can't really go wrong)!

The reaver is awesome, the classic head and the pose are great (the painting too, but as the rest :) ).

Here's the updated Legio Victorum.

Still waiting on FW to get me the right Reaver. So that is only the Reaver, an Imperator (waiting to get the previous owners paint removed) and one more Ordinatus Minoris to finish my Legion.

Glowing inspiration from mageboltrat.

That is an amazing sight. Purely lovely. The Smaller Ordinatus (Minorus?) Where did you manage to get these. You made them look like they belong wonderfully.

Great work! :agree:

Wonderful use of terrain to add to the overall look of the models.
