My guess would be the Su35UB?? Fat cockpit kinda gives it away.

thanks -

Well according to the Chinese manufacturer, it's SU-33UB Flanker, so you're close enough :)
According to rock-solid sources (i.e. the internet) almost no-one has purchased this particular model from the Russians, so that's why I call it obscure.

Well if I knew we were being picky about format :P lol Edit: DOH! didn't notice the 33, close but no cigar!

When I was looking it up one page said only one was ever made, and here's you with 6. It was in one of the Ace Combat games back when they liked putting obscure aircraft in alongside the usual super planes. My personal fav is the SU-47 Berkut.

I've just read through all 21 pages of this thread, some great conversion work and a very nice Emperor's Children army you have!

You also win the internet for having the funniest topic title I've seen in a while :D

thanks firestorm, much appreciated. I'm glad you were able to wade through all those posts...

Now, a question for the community: what color scheme do you recommend for the banelord? I'm leaning towards something that's in keeping with the rest of the army - low-key, with a few random panels in shades of pink and purple. should I go for something completely different? I can't say I'll definitely take your advice, but I'm looking for ideas here.

i think you should go with pink on most of the outwards facing panels, with grey banding, but no pink at all for any of the mutation bits
also, i like the banelord, i wish i had more of that warlord and less of the beetlebacks XD

Thanks for the suggestion, JTG.

Minor update: the Heltalon/Su-33UB's are done:

The scheme should look familiar. Also, started on the drop pods:

Yeah I know, *yawn*, but I had the camera out and they were less than 2 ft away from the planes, so...

Another minor update. I'm reserving the banelord for epicomp, so no updates on that bad boy for a while. the consolation prize: a couple pics of talons of foreboding, ready for their rare and brief appearance on an epic battlefield:

All appropriately chaotic. The final drop pod has been sacrificed for a small diorama, also for epicomp.

Between this thread and Mageboltrat's Death guard, I'm very tempted to start up a Chaos army myself.

Give in to the temptation... you know you want to :P

I count that as high praise - thank you

Forgot to mention Mangleboltrat's thread provided a huge amount of inspiration for this one

Stunning work- some great conversions and I love the muted pink.

Have you got any close ups for the Banelord? Loved the WIP photos but would love to see more of painted model.

Where do "talons of foreboding" come from?

Thanks very much

James

The banelord is getting entered in epicomp so I was refraining from posting pics of that yet. As for the talons of foreboding, I got them second hand; they are hand sculpted by [censored] I think.
