Yep it definitely saved our bacon helping cover my daughters school fees until my wifes pay starts coming in from her new job!!  I honestly can't even comprehend going into a war zone, I would definitely rather face my irate wife any day.

I haven't actually finished any units tonight so no pictures but I have made some good progress.  All the falcons are cleaned and assembled and the two falcon troupes are undercoated and based.  I have also done the basing for all the the remaining guardians and the wraith guard, so I should be able to get through all of them quickly as soon as I can get some more scorched brown.

If any one has any ideas on how to best differentiate the black guardian units while keeping in line with the army colors please post up your suggestions.

I want to try fully basing up a unit of guardians with the weapons done but the helmets left black to see how they look.  I am worried that this will look a little plain though as the white helmets really do make them stand out.  I don't think switching the color scheme (ie red helmet white gun) will look very good because the weapons are ridiculously out of proportion with the miniatures and I have tried to paint them in a way to avoid emphasizing how big the guns are.

Other possibilities for the black guardians could be having the central warrior with a black helmet on each stand representing some sort of corporal or sergeant.

i just reversed the color sceme, for instance black suites with wraithbone helmets for black gaurdians and wraihtbone armour with black helmets and highlights for regular gaurdians.

   great army, the painting is excellent. your doing this on commission ? how much do you charge , and how much more would it be to strip someone elses lousy paint job off first ?? :D :D  just kidding i suppose i can live with my lack of talent.

Doh!  Thats a really good idea but I have already done the regular guardians with black armor and wraithbone helmets.  What do people think about the idea of black guardians having wraithbone armor and black helmets.  Don't know if it feels right to me as I would imagine even more black on them.

Anyway tonight I only got to start painting quite late as we have a bit of a rent inspection tomorrow.  I managed to finish up all the basing for the Falcons and do some of the colors but they still need some finishing details.

I have finished up most of one of the other Guardian formations but unfortunately I can't do the weapons platforms yet because the GW order got delayed before shipping for some mysterious reason.



Edit ++ The Wraith Guard have extra detailing on the sides of the helmets where they have a gem ++

Great army -and progressing at a frightening pace :D

How about doing some guardians in the old Ulthwe scheme (black with yellow helmets) to differentiate them? The scheme still looks good and shouldn't  look too out of place IMO.

how about a black stripe down center of helmet and wraithbone knee/shoulder pads or somthin. i'de quail at painting the stripe but somehow i think you could manage it N.P. :D

Mark, how about going with all black armour and bone weapons? You can dull the bone down easily enough to reduce over-emphasising them. STart with a brown and just highlight up to bone maybe?

I made mine just with black armor and bone weapons and other formation with dark red weapons. just make them quite black! :)

Mark, as i said over on Westgamer, brilliant! Shame the new job is keeping me busy with work and travel over east or I'd get off my ass and actually paint some more eldar myself. :(

Thanks for all the ideas with regards to the Black Guardians.  I'll leave it as a surprise which one has actually been chosen.

I managed to finish the two falcon troupes tonight.  Well actually looking at the images I just realized I haven't done the final highlight on the black so they are not technically finished.  Will finish them but not going to bother redoing the pictures.





+++ edit looking at the photos I realised I have a little touching up on the white to do.  I blame the shoddy lighting in my hobby room.  I'll fix it up during the day.

All right I had another crack at getting the white to my satisfaction under the better lighting conditions of day and done my final highlight on the black.



I am much happier with them now.
