Cheers, dude.

Aaaand the winner is: the Strike Cruiser!

This is the first Spaceship I've painted specifically for an Epic army. I do have a cruiser that I can use with my Chaos army, but I originally painted it for my BFG Chaos fleet. This model, however, was bought and painted purely for this army; I do not have a Space Marine fleet for BFG. However, since deploying from Drop Pods is almost as key a part of the Space Marine approach as air assaulting Thunderhawks, it didn't seem like something I could really do without.

Terminators next.

I think your Space-Fleet-era battleship might well be worth more cool points anyway...

Thanks, everyone!

And now, as promised, a Terminator detachment:

Much as I suspected, these were mostly very easy to paint, except for the helmets, which were quite difficult. Still, I think I've got them looking OK in the end.

This brings me to another milestone with this army. If I borrow a Thunderbolt squadron from my Imperial Navy Wing, and a Warhound from my Titan Legion, then I can field a 3,000-point army with the Space Marines I have painted so far. Except...since I finished my Titan legion I've managed to get hold of some Forumware 'Truescale' Warhounds, which are, I think, a better size next to the huge Forgeworld Thunderhawks.

So even though the reason I started the AMTL in the first place was as much to provide titans to my other armies as anything else, now that I have another Imperial army I am now going to paint some more Titans for it anyway.

Yeah. I got this Thunderhawk, along with another one with even worse casting issues that ended up as this beast, a couple of years ago. The site I ordered them from doesn't seem to exist any more and, although I haven't looked all that hard, I can't find them anywhere else. But I'd be hesitant to order more anyway with the casting problems.

Well, after a short delay caused by my going on holiday last week, here is a pair of Warhound Titans:

Image
(Click for larger image.)

Even though they are completely out of scale with my other Titans, I decided to paint these in the same colours. At one stage I was considering going for something completely different, but since I originally designed this scheme to complement my Space Marines, I decided to stick with it.

At some point I will add a Reaver in this scale, with a Leviathan Stalker to stand in as a Warlord. For now, however, it's back to painting actual Space Marine units.

^ Wow, thanks!

Continuing in the vein of things I didn't need to do because I already did them in other projects, here are some aircraft:

Image
(Click for larger image.)

The models are NoloContendere's excellent Rainclaw VTOL gunships, here representing Stormtalons. Except that Stormtalons don't exist in the Codex Marines army list, so in games they'll actually be counting as Thunderbolts. Which isn't really that big a stretch; their weaponry is no worse a match for the armament that Thunderbolts have in the rules than the Forge World Thunderbolt models; they actually have rockets unlike the FW models (which just have empty spots where rockets could theoretically go), and the assault cannons could represent multilasers at a pinch, which is more than can be said for the twin lascannons and quad autocannons on the FW T'bolts.

I really like the way that these models aren't perfect 1-1 replicas of the 40k Stormtalon models. Pretty much every way that they differ is an improvement. The Stormtalon is so nearly a quite cool design; it just needs a few tweaks to make it look not-stupid. Make the fuselage a bit longer, but not quite as tall, enlarge the wings, and make the turret at the bottom less excessively prominent and you're on to something that looks less like a cross between a goldfish and a potato, and more like something pretty cool. Which is exactly what has happened here.
