There's two sorts of Squat heavy weapons, as I recall. The ones with the magazine pointing upwards is intended to be a missile launcher, while the one with the magazine infront of the hand and pointing downwards (which appear to be the painting ones you have in the image) are intended to be heavy bolters.

DK -

You are right on the money. Thanks!

I'll get out some silver paint and my trusty #2 pencil and fix them up.

Hello! I've been busy doing some painting, but I haven't had enough time to post. Sorry about that!

Up first are some proxied Squat Gyrocopters.

Image

They aren't all the way done. This shot shows the before and after the application of Nuln Oil Gloss. That stuff is magic in a bottle.

Did you have any issues with those models? Moulding lines? Details good? They look great in a nice grey as you have them, though I'm going to have to make mine match the hold's primary colours.

Now if only I could make a start on some good hex bases. Yes, STILL looking.

They were quick to paint up! Base coat, Nuln Oil Gloss, a few highlights... some done with watercolor pencil. Easy!

Mold lines: the front cannons on a few of them were a little wonky. But the model is so sweet that it is easy to overlook. I did take the extra step of pinning the tails on. That was a bit of a pain. But I hate it when bits fall off, so I was compelled to do it.

I wanted to go for a simple color scheme on my first squadron, so I primed them gray and my painting was 70% done. The stripes on the back match the Hold's colors.

Ah yes... the Quest for the Hex Bases(tm). Good luck! I hope you find them!

Jeff

Thanks for all of the kind words! Here's what's coming up next:

There are some Squat Bikes and Trikes, Gyrocopters, an Overlord Airship, and a few off-topic Dropfleet Commander Frigates.

AIIIIIRSHIIIIIP! Not that I'm obsessed, but every Squat army should have at least three. :D

And, you're right epic, those Dropfleet Scourge are gorgeous. They are SO gorgeous, they lured my not-really-gaming hubby into buying a whole fleet, and playing them! AND bugging me about playing and painting more, something that has never happened before!

Wonderful work as always!

Thanks Epic!

The Dropfleet Scourge Frigates were EASY. I'm not joking. The detail on the model does all of the work for you.

    Spray silver
    Nuln Oil wash, let dry
    Second Nuln Oil wash
    Dry brush silver
Purple ink on the ridges with a big brush
    Green ink on the rest
    Testers Dullcoat Spray
    Dry brush metallic gold
    Pick out eyes in red
    Gloss varnish eyes

The only thing that takes a steady hand is the eyes.

Here is a quick picture of some Squat Bikers. You can see that I've just begun to edge highlight them; the ones on the left have them, the ones on the right are patiently awaiting their turn. I used a watercolor pencil which is a quick, sneaky way to get decent lines down on model edges.
