Ares I Stormblades

2 custom mixes
The red is 'terra-red', combination of GW's terracotta and blood red.
The whitish color is super-light khaki, a combination of GW's kommando khaki and white.

The red is based with cadmium red or hull red (Vallejo there). P3 sanguine base is also appropriate.
Main coat with successive coats of terra-red. Highlight with, um, I don't remember. I think terra-red with a dwarf-flesh mix.

The white is based with kommando khaki, the light khaki mix, then highlighted with off-white (vallejo).

Note that the Vallejo Model Color khaki is quite a bit different from GW khaki or Vallejo's own Game Color khaki.

I was hoping that P3s paints would fall magically into place, but experiments have shown that I will have to continue to mix my own.

At last, a valid excuse for me to copy some ForgeWorld stuff. Replacements for busted and missing sponson turrets.

Or, an opportunity to make my own sponson turrets...

The White Scars use a mixed color scheme? I thought they were just white white.

WhiteScars are White yes. But they also have red shoulder trims and their armor and vehicles display red lightning marks occasionally as canbe seenhere:

Thanks for the Astartes link.

My vision is of a unit operating in a Martiany red-rust environment. Maybe the red color (mine a brick red) is enough to distinguish it from other works.

Regardless ... looks good ! :) On Mars-like terrain ... that shade of red may just work. ?I see more of a Rust Red vs. Brick, but I've never been to Ares 1, or Mars for that matter ! ?:)
