Looking really nice, I'll definitely be trying your approach to basing on my nids. I have got some of that sandy paste stuff as well though...

I have a question regarding infantry leaders. I plan to play this army using the 3rd phase list (mainly because I want to use Kroot). I may want to change to the Farsight list which include leaders amongst their Fire Warrior units. I'm wondering how to make these individuals stand out. In the pics you may notice a few with light grey shoulder pads, but they don't stand out. Do I simply paint a light grey helmet on one of them as well? Is their a better Tau way?

Basing did give me a conundrum, I normally attach the minis to the base, add basing sand etc. then paint. With these I painted the minis off their base, but I think I'll go back to my original method.

I have a few more finished minis on my blog http://mickeysminis.blogspot.co.uk/

This time its the Pathfinders; these are made up of two Onslaught Minis unit tyes Neo Shinobi/Neo Shinobi Snipers. Adding these units together gives much more variety on the base, also enableling me to include both the Rail Rifles and the Pulse Carbines

Here's a couple of the pics

I've been having a go at painting my Avians, which I'll be using as proxies for my Kroot. I using mainly Avian braves with a few kinsmen (with swords removed) for Kroot warriors. Kinsmen with swords will act as my Shaper command. I chose yellow as their skin colour as I'm fairly sure I won't be using it on another race (don't ask me what they have been eating). The loin cloths are red to match with the Farsight Tau.

If you have any suggestions as to colour changes, please comment.

Here are the two pics I've added to my blog

Curious as to how you plan to base crisis (and which models)

I'm not completely sure yet, but I will probably have one per base, on a flight stand (like my grav tanks) and maybe with some gun drones. I will do a little experimenting posing the minis. As for which models, I bought them when I had in mind to play NetEpic (individual types can be fielded), so I have a few of each pack. I will probably keep them in detachments by type. I see these as an opportunity to make mini diaramas on each base.
