Well, I guess that was what they call a landslide victory for the sisters :o.

Now, without further ado, may I present to you the...

PROGRESS REPORT, DAY 1:

As a model I chose the sister holding a bolter pointed slightly downward.

After searching the net for source images and printing those out in a nice collage for reference, I set to work.

First, I made an armature, out of thin sticks (about 0.5 mm or less in diameter) cut/carved from plastic sprue.

Then the real work began - sculpting.

I chose to do first those parts I generally find most difficult - the head and the feet (don't ask me why I find the *feet* so difficult - I have no idea at all).

Predictably those were a pain in the you-know-where.
I scrapped two pairs of feet an account of malproportion and size, and my first head would have been pretty much perfect - for a Harlequin's Rictus Mask, not a SOB, unfortunately.

Still, I arrived at feet which may at least serve as the basis for further work, and a head which looks rather nice, if I may say so myself, though I will probably do some touch-ups later (particularly concerning the hair).

This took me the better half of the day ,which is rather shocking, I have to admit. [As a side note: I wish Maksim's wraith had made it, on account of it's lacking both face and legs :p]

I also managed to do some work on her bolter and the crucifix she will be wearing over her tabard. The basic shapes for both were cut from thin plastic (from the bottom of a throw-away cup, since they don't sell proper plasticard where I live).
Details were done/will be done in a Green Stuff/ Milliput mix (which I generally prefer) or smaller parts of plastic.

That's it for today, see you tomorrow for the next installment  .

Cheers,

Drasannar

PROGRESS REPORT, DAY 2:

Unfortunately, I rather overslept today and was busy with university work until late afternoon/early evening, so I didnt have much time for sculpting.

Still, I feel like I achieved more than yesterday (now that should tell you just how *much* I hate sculpting faces and feet . I would probably be adding the finishing touches to the wraith right now :-: ). More precisely ,this is where I am now:

- I am now mostly done on the Bolter, except for some minor detailing and cleaning up/touching up to make it look more "crisp".

- Did most of the work on the legs. Again, what is left to do is detailing (the fleurs de lys on the knees) and I'm not quite satisfied with the shape, so I will do some more sanding/filing/carving/filling on them. Still, ?most of the right leg will be hidden by the tabard anyway, so that one doesn't matter so much, and I'm mostly satisfied with the left.

- Started work on the armored "bodice", but so far only the basic shape.
On a side note: I can't make it out properly on my pictures, but I believe the tabard does *not* extend up her back, does it? Not that it matters much, with the backpack covering most of it anyway.

- Speaking of which, I finished the plastic armature for the backpack but haven't yet started sculpting.

- Slightly re-shaped the hairdo, I think it looked too "flat" on top, before.

So much for the progress report.
Now about the WIP pictures you are calling for:
I would love to provide them, but as I mentioned earlier, I don't have a digital cam (nor a polaroid) and I will not get my friend's camera before the weekend (friday night, more precisely).
*However*, I could try to use my flatbed scanner to take some in-progress shots. I have never tried this before, but I am aware that some people have taken shots of minis in that way - ?some of the results looked quite OK, some were IMHO just abominable.

Now, I will try it out tomorrow, and if it looks acceptable I will post some pics. However, if the scanner makes it look like a five-year old with a toothpick and a bad attitude had lavished his attention on a piece of putty, I might reconsider it :L.

Cheers,

Drasannar

If you have cats, Drasannar, lock them out of the room - I can just picture the scene - hours and hours of work on the sister, which is placed reverently on the scanner, along comes cat, rubs against scanner cover - splat - 1 sister down and very flat, courtesy of a Kitten of Khorne. :(
Seriously - this sounds REALLY good! Can't wait for the pics. :D

PROGRESS REPORT, DAY 3:

Well, As you see I took some pictures using the scanner (attachment at the bottom of the post). The quality is nothing spectacular, but not as bad as I feared.
(I apologize for the poor quality of the collage, I just cut and pasted the individual parts together with a view to saving space)

The image shows:

(-An Epic catachan, both for size comparison and to give you a means of judging the loss of quality in the image).

-The Head: It's effectively finished, unless I decide to change something about the hair. I don't want to mess with the face, since it would be a horror if I ruined it now.

-The bolter: 90% finished, what's left to do is just the touching up to make it look smoother and the edges crisper (which is always a problem for me in that scale, since I don't have access to brown stuff, which would probably be perfect for that kind of work).
By the way, IMO the other side of the weapon looks better ("cleaner" mostly) , but unfortunately it won't be visible on the finished miniature- d'oh !

-The main body (2 shots): First off, I haven't set to work on the arms yet, but they likely won't be too difficult, so I don't mind putting them off a little. Also they need to match the shape of the body.
Now for the body: As you can see it's still some way from completion but it ought to be recognizableas a Sister, which is a vast improvement from yesterday, when it was just the legs and some plastic slab where the torso should be.
The legs are mostly finished now, except for the fleur-de-lys on her left leg, which I might redo. By the way, that's why I included views from 2 sides, since I'm very satisfied with it from the front, but IMO it stands out way too much from the side, what do you think ?
The tabard, both front and back needs some more work, particularly the back part.
The torso still needs some work. The flanks look irregular (actually more so on the scan), but they will be covered by the arms. There are also two fleurs-de-lys missing (below each breast), but I'm not sure whether I'll do them, since they would be hidden by the weapon anyway (in the pose I'm basing this mini on) and are extremely fiddly.
I haven't yet started work on the shoulder pads, what you see in the picture is just a basic shape for stability.
She's also still missing the tubes coming from her backpack as well as the skull emblem that connects them.

What is not in the picture:

-The backpack and the crucifix: I didn't include these because of the way they are attached for handling, which would have made them tricky to get into the scanner without having to break the support off and reglue it later, which I didn't want to do.
The backpack is around 70% finished unless I decide the fleur-de-lys doesnt' look good enough ( I think it's a little too wide) , in which case it's closer to 50 or 60%. The most tricky thing missing are the small spiky bits on both ends of the "T-bar".
The crucifix is finished, it even has a small skull (really tiny, which probably wouldn't properly show up on the scan anyway
(hell, even with the eye you probably have to know what it is to recognize it, but I didn't want to leave it off, or replace it with a simple gem or something.)

So what's left to do? Besides all that's listed above and the obligatory touching up: Some grenades or somesuch to hang from her (yet to do) belt, and the arms. And fitting it all together, which is gonna be terrible, but then again great because I will effectively have crossed the finish line by then.

So much for today, see you tomorrow.

Cheers,

Drasannar

P.S. @Vanvlak: You seem to be talking from personal experience ?. Alas, I know what you mean. I *do* have a cat; his name is "Loki" and he behaves accordingly. So I generally keep him *far* away from my sculpting table

:O Just fantastic, amazing stuff Drasannar....

Would it be possible to cast it?

(new member for the Inner Circle anyone?! :;): ) hehe

Anyway- its a fine bit of sculpting, really neat, crisp and looking very nice even in this unfinished state... I like the way you've done the loincloth and the fleurs-de-lys, and the head looks spot on too.
