I played an IG titan traction list against robbypk yesterday. Besides some pretty horrendous dice rolls, the most notable part of this battle, which shall be purged from the ole' archives soon, is the loss of the venerable Indestructus II, my warlord. Not because it faced unsurmountable odds...

At the end of turn 3, the IG found itself boxed in by traitorous Ultramarines, so it was up to the titan to get on the other half of the board if there was to be any hope of getting to turn 4. Of course, a scout detachment that seemed impervious to all other attempts to break it was ZoC-ing said titan. The mighty princeps decided that a barging engagement was the best way to do this. Quickly turning the 3 bases of scouts to paste under it's gigantic feet, the engagement was brief. However, in what could only be a spitefully-thrown bowie knife through the engineseer's open hatch, the titan failed to save (rolled a '1', followed by a '2' for my 4+RA) the one hit scored by the scouts. The nefarious ultramarines rolled a '6' for a critical. Fast forward to the end of the turn, it is speculated by those present that the enginseer, stumbling around his control room impaled by the knife, hit the big red self-destruct button or some such silliness, as the general rolled a '1' on the repair roll, resulting in a gigantic mushroom cloud... oh how the mighty have fallen. %$#%$@!!!!!

The Indesctructus II is dead! Long live the Indestructus III!!
That teaches me to name my titans.

Perhaps a good thing to do at this point to purge that awful awful taste from my mouth is to post some pics of my War Gryphons. These are all luscious-pattern war engines painted in a low-viz scheme (as if a titan can blend in using a coat of paint...). The second warlord and reaver are magnetized.

I can't remember if I've posted some of these or not. Apologies for any repeats.

The AM with War Gryphon support in action against Black Legion and Cultists a couple of years ago in a megabattle. They were teamed up with the Subjugators o' Dave:

Love the color scheme and weapon swaps, very nice.

I must say thought i hate those lucious pattern reavers, they look so damn boxy and top heavy.

Anyway fantastic work!

Would you mind giving me the details on how you painted them?

Thanks. I started with a black prime, and then dry brushed the machinery parts with gunmetal. If I had to do these over again, I think I would give those parts a coat of silver, followed by a wash of devlan mud, and then another wash of badab black (like my banelord on my other painting thread).

On the armor, the base coat is vallejo green ochre, then I dry brushed a mix of white and green ochre (to get a lighter shade that was noticeable). Then I gave it a wash of devlan mud, followed by a lighter drybrush of the green ochre/white mix.

I think they might be 40k bases, but I'm not sure as I got them from Dave. He'd know from whence they came :)

The reavers are indeed boxy, but I still like them better than the mars pattern ones. Again, if I had to do these over, I'd chop up the legs on them and give them a better pose than the one they come with.

They are the old thin style 60mm round bases from GW. I wish they still made them.

Great looking Lucius pattern titans- I do think they look best in a more muted colour scheme than the heraldic colours that seem to suit the Mars pattern titans. Excellently done.

Cheers

James

I thought they were these ones. Looks like you can still by them. I bought a set last year to base my squat war engines on.
Cheers

Those are them, 3 for $4.50 is ridiculous though. They used to be 15 for $5!

Ha, glad someone noticed. It's pretty low-slung on that model - ready to deal out some major crotch shots!

If you mean the ones in the battle pics, Dave's snipers are EW or DRM I believe. He did some funky stuff with the heads. For the heavy bolters, he did some more fancy scratch building, the genius of which I recognized right away. "Wow Dave. those are the BEST heavy bolters I have ever seen. There is no question whatsoever as to what those might be. Honest." True story :P

My skitarii are SM/TL guardsmen painted red, if those are the ones you mean.
