"Thanks for the links Krax and good luck with painting Medusas' head on hundreds of shoulder pads Vanvlak. " Gulp - that's one I'm not keen to face! But for some reason, I think it's easier in Epic scale than the newer emblem.

Long-postponed update: well, I've started... there's a matter of competition models and huge Xenos vehicles and even 40K Necrons who are all in the way a bit, but the testpiece is finally nearing completion. It's everybody's favourite model, the boxy Vindicator from 'Space Marine' days - hurrah! You've got to admit, though, it's the ideal testpiece - large, flat surfaces which can be cleaned very easily! I tried the full green armour, got bored, toyed with the stripey idea, couldn't get it right, so in the end I mixed both and painted the Vindy in green with a few square sand -coloured patches in a pattern a little like the cold-war British tank colours used for tanks stationed in Berlin. I've teched-up the Vind. just a little, to break down its boxyness. All that remains is one detail - the dreaded chapter emblems. Hmmmmm... Pics promised once the emblem is done.

I added detail to the SM2 Vindy, like hatches, muzzle break, etc. ... not too bad an upgrade. ?Look forward to your completed model !

Hi L4, yeah, it makes it appear better..but the Medusa heads (which I prefer over the newer emblem) are one big problem!

That might be a tough one...
Shrink an insignia in color and print it on decal paper. They can do this rather easily at high speed copy place!

Hi all - I've solved the problem ?- I've decided to go for a different chapter - something born of a collision between an old chaos colour scheme, the Angels of Fire from Krax' chart (above), and the Ad. Mech.
The old scheme provided the flames which I've remembered I can paint. The Angels of Fire provide the emblem - but I didn't want scarlet tanks (L-4 WILL be pleased).
So I compromised by having black (oh well, still not very tactical - except on the dark side of wherever they are) vehicles and armour with dull red drybrush and flame emblems.
As I said I'll drag the Ad Mech in to tie up with my 3rd army and the robots provided by Dafrca.
Background? Well, the core will be Brunt's Guard, several squads large with several tanks. But I don't know who Brunt is, or how to explain the dark colours - yet. Maybe I'll just create a new chapter....
P.S. Strength so far: - 1 LR and 2 Rhinos; - Around 8 more rhinos and 4 LRs awaiting flames only. - Next - the Vindicator!

Hi Justiniel, sorry to disappoint - I wasn't too pleased with the greens either - and olive drab did not fit with the Sons of M inage. I tried the emblem several times, starting with black and then white. The nadir of my experience was when I painted what appeared to be a good effort in black - until I realised it looked more like Spiderman's emblem than a Medusa head.
