2000 points is good for your first few games. Then you can work up to 3000.  Also, try to avoid using Titans until you feel comfortable with the rules.

Hey guys,

It's been quite a while.

So I finally figured out what all these little plastic soldiers were supposed to represent, AS IT WAS WRITTEN ON THE BACK OF THE BOX.... Pictures included. I am SUCH a silly goose. No, seriously!

So anyhoo, I have gotten quite a bit more time nowadays, and decided it was seriously time to get back into the Epic business, as it is still my number one favourite game, even though I know nothing of it and have never played a game of it in my life. I just really love the scale!

So, I have already received a couple of tips on the tanks and titans I own, here's what I have in terms of marine goodness.

10 robots - I know, not used anymore, but these plastic ones are even better for converting stuff! Suggestions on what to use them for are more than welcome.

20 Marine Captains
20 Marines with Heavy Weapons
10 Marine Commanders
200 Marines in Mk7 Armour
20 Terminators
40 Marines with Jump Packs
20 Marine Bikes
10 Land Speeders

So, how do I build these teams up? Are Heavy Weapons put inside a unit of Tactical Marines, or are they their own unit? And how many marines go on one base? Are captains special units? And what about commanders?

Basically, what I want to know is, how am I supposed to turn these into units?

Remember, it's going to be AT LEAST 2 armies, and both CHAOS Space Marines.

I am secretly hoping you guys will tell me this is easily enough for 4 armies, so me and my buddy can both make 2 Chaos armies!! :D

So, last question for those daring enough to take the time and help me out. Could you turn all of what I have right now into 2 equal 2000 point armies? I would be most grateful!

It's typical to put 5 per stand, but you can use fewer to stretch the number of stands you have. The usual convention is 1 Heavy Weapon Marine per stand for Tactical and 2 HW for Devastators. Or you can do it the old skool way (as I have), 0 HW for Tactical and 1 HW for Devastators. The sprues you have were designed to be based the old skool way, giving you up to 20 Devastator and 20 Tactical stands. The Sergeants and Commanders you can use to designate Characters and Leader types.

Land Speeders are one per stand and Bikes are either two or three per stand. With 10 I would do two Bikes per to give you five stands. The Robots are good proxies for Praetorians if you ever do an AM list or you I think you can use them as Obliterators for Chaos.

Chaos Obliterators sounds like an EXCELLENT idea! Thanks for that (and the quick reply).

So, 5 marines per stand. Does that include a captain on each stand? Or only one per so many stands or something?

And Devastators are basically a Heavy Weapon Marine units? (I don't play SM in 40K) Would that be a viable option for Chaos as well?

Terminators and Jump Packs, would that be 5 models a stand as well?

I also have 10 Commanders... What's the deal with that amount? Where do I put those?

Remember also that your "5-man stands" are "book" (Codex) TO&Es.  Such organizations never survive first contact with the enemy.. even if they are not Chaos.

Tuffskull has argued that it is best to think of the base as a miniature, not the individual soldiers on it, so bits of ruin, casualties, other interesting bitz are often nice, while the WYSIWIG aspect is far less important.

Hi. I kind of miss your point. Are you suggesting I make them 10-man strong? Is that a legitimate possibility though? I wouldn't mind doing it, if it is possible.

And another question, while we're at it. I want to start a Guard army as well in the near future. Now, I know the standard bases are 20 by 40 nowadays, and that looks good to an advancing Space Marine army, in my opinion. Now, with this set of Space Marines, it's 20 by 20, which I think looks nicer for Guardsmen, which are too scared to all walk next to each other. How many Guardsmen go on one base? Is that also 5? Because in that case, I am going to save these 20 by 20 bases for my Guardsmen, and order some 20 by 40 for my Marines.

Since you guys are so kind to help me out, it's only fair I return the favour by showing you some juicy pictures!!

Least interesting:

I had these lying around for a while, to start my Guard army, and now they are basecoated.

But now my Death Guard stuff!!

VROOM VROOM!!

Cute Icons on their front, no?

And now for some work in progress!!

You all probably know the Nurgle Daemon Prince model? Well, as it turns out, one of the old Dreadnoughts is PERFECT for it!!! I have to do it in steps though, no rushing this time. So I did the beginning of his shoulderpad, his belly, his face and those funny horn things on top. Next up will be detailing on the pad,, the legs and the loin cloth, I guess...

I'm loving the work you did on that dread...and I still have one of those blisters from way back. I may just, um, borrow that idea for a future project.

Keep up the good work.

By all means, do!

The spike on his forehead is from a Dryad bit. The sword is just fiddling with plasticard, and the rest is just insane copying from the original... The pose is practically the same, it's scary!

PS: Still some unanswered questions from the bottom of the first page.  ???

PS2: Is it just me, or did the selection of Forgeworld Epic Imperial Guard range got thinner?

So I was browsing through some scenery stuff by Micro Art Studio, and I saw these:

http://www.shop.microartstudio.com/batt ... p-309.html
http://www.shop.microartstudio.com/batt ... p-267.html
http://www.shop.microartstudio.com/batt ... p-265.html
http://www.shop.microartstudio.com/batt ... p-266.html

What do you guys think, would these make nice city walls?

On a similar note, is there a thread where one can place suggestions on products that could be used for Epic?

And I have a small question. Space Marine squads are 10 men strong, right? And I usually see 5 marines on 1 base. Is that deliberate, or could I make my own bases and place 10 men on them?

I know, I am terrible and should just read the rules, but right now I am only interested in getting my army painted... I hope you´ll forgive me.

The rules allow between 3 and 7 Infantry models on a base. 5 Marines is half a 40K squad (a 'combat squad') and therefore a natural division. Add to this the fact that standard (square and rectangular) Epic bases have 5 holes in them, and you get a trend.

NIce walls. They could use a firing platform near the top, but I like the detail.

So, yesterday I did some more work on my Daemon Prince... Here are the pics:

So that Daemon Prince has this weird fly-thing on his arm, that I tried to model as well... It looks pretty nifty, though from this close-up, it looks a little amateuristic... Here's to hoping painting it will make it look better.

And here is my Daemon Prince on my first scratchbuilt piece of scenery... I used plasticard and some Platformer Biotoxin Plant bits. Looks good, no?

But I also have an important question, for those who will be here beforehand. I dislike starting new threads left and right so I will just use my project log for all assorted questions.

Anyhoo, I was taking a gander at some of the Flames of War scenery. It looks REALLY good, and affordable as well. But is it in scale for Epic? Does anyone have any experience with it?

http://www.flamesofwar.com/Default....Index=1

There's two more pages, and the stuff found here looks really nice. That first set, "North Africa", just screams Orky architecture. I know that can also be scratchbuilt pretty easily, but the rivers and hill sections aren't as quick to build.

So... Good idea to purchase?

Very nice work, especially on those old OOP Dreads !  :agree:   And yes, Forge World's Epic range overall is being attrited ... some may come back ... some not ...  We discussed this a ways back.   Don't know what Forge World is going to do with Epic in the long run ...

I'd be surprised if the FOW terrain was workable for epic-  FOW is 15mm scale, which is a bit of a stretch for 6-8mm scale models.

Better bet is to look at timecast, GHQ and other 6mm manufacturers.
