I think sanding bases off will work fine if you have cut small base size holes to the diorama's base. If sand moves, narrow gap between hole and base will keep enough sand to hide most obvious. Just remember to paint holes and base edges to ground base colour.

I think early plan looks a bit too crowded. You dont have space for scenic details.

Hmmm - sounds good.
Crowding - I agree!
I think I got a bit carried away. In fact there's an imbalance between Chaos and the Imperium which has to be redressed. the crowding does make it look a bit like a John Blanche pic, though, so I'm still tempted..... but I think I will have to remove some stuff, if only for practical purposes!

Thanks again Nib.

BTW, I started sanding the DRM bases that were molded too thick in early releases. Only a couple packs have them. Easy, but my fingers are sore ! :O

You should get a small sander, L-4 :)

Meanwhile: I've settled on 3 projects in the end, and depending on how they'll turn out, I'll enter 2 or all 3 of them.
One is the Epic battle scene I'd mentioned above; the second is a very small diorama showing 3 Baccus Command Horizon tanks. The third is in 28mm scale, an idea i'd had. A bit bizarre. All three are in progress - couldn't quite finish one before starting the others, could I?

Update - well, one down, 3 to go, but I found a new project idea - see it all on the Vanblog in WikiWikiWikiWiki(help-how-do-you-stop)WikiWar.
