The possibility of sculpting a decent chunk of the modern Tyranid range and then approaching SG had occured to me... but my sculpts aren't good enough for that to be honest.

as collonel potter would say, HORSE HOCKEY !!!
that is a really good sculpt for 6mm bro. while your humility is admirable, don't sell yourself short !

Aproaching SG about casting/selling models is a waste of time. Theyhave moulds for the existing tyranid models, yet won't put them into production because it's not financially viable. How would casting up a whole new lot be more financially viable? It isn't, and won't ever be.

You missed the part where the old tyranid models look like spikey slugs and pretty much suck. Still, I'd tend to agree with you, the structure of SG and the fiscal rules imposed upon it precludes any investment, and most likely will continue to do so until ... something changes.

Hey E&C, can you tell us what the basic parts were you used?  I really like these and I guess I'll need to DIY it....just need to know what parts I need to try and buy.  Is it a Termagant body with Hormagaunt claws or something like that?  (I have no clue on 40K stuff and what it looks like these days.)

A Warrior's body, warriors lower jaws, termagant legs, hormagaunt scything talons, half a warrior tail, and a LOT of Green Stuff.
