do you wet blend or use layering or what? I'm trying to teach myself wet blending and it's a time consuming technique when you're just starting out..
Well I'm putting together a tutorial for this particular scheme that might help. It's really very rare that I use wet blending though. The nature of acrylics means they dry very quickly when using them thinned out and in very small areas which makes it very difficult to get color A in place and color B on before the first color has dried too much for a good blend even with retarders. Wet blending works best in larger areas like terrain.
Pretty much everything I do at this point is based on feathering. One brush puts a layer down and a second brush blends the edges. That's the technique I used on the turret up there. Black is more forgiving though since you can just hit it with a black wash to tone it down to the proper level.
The last option is glazing. I don't do this unless I'm toning an area like after I finish metals to bring back some color or to tint an area/ enhance a color without repainting the whole thing. You can use this to build up very smooth highlights but it's extremely time consuming and I get impatient most of the time.
