It was a fun game (even with additional T-72s being transferred from the Soviet Division's reserves... :sos ). Pre-planning artillery strikes was tricky as the defender. I just guessed based on the terrain, where enemy formations might be on different turns and I guessed correctly two out of three times! Brad's armor saves were impressive as my powerful Sheridan tanks barely made a dent in one of his Mechanized infantry companies. What we discovered in this game is that the Soviets need to be super aggressive, almost reckless, in order to get to the objective in time. The Americans just needed to delay and block the Soviet advances. I think things will become more challenging for the defending army as airborne forces and air power is introduced.

A really fun storyline grew out of this game and it happened to follow a somewhat common occurrence in WW2 Soviet military history. Command of the Soviet forces was transferred from Brad (who had to leave half way thru the game) to Rob. We joked that with the Soviet attack faltering, Brad was given a pistol with one bullet and forced to "retire" by Soviet high command. Rob was then given an immediate field promotion and told to "salvage the attack and win at all costs"...Last I heard, Rob was sent to "rest" at a Siberian labor camp, turning big rocks into little rocks.

But the war rages on! I'm just waiting for the Litko mushroom cloud to appear on the table...

fantastic forces and looked a really enjoyable game, I have been resisting 6mm modern minatures for years but at some point will paint up a set in future years. ;)

There we go, finally remembered my password

It was a very fun game. It took a turn to get over my initial mindset and trying to shoot my way through the Americans (yeah, it sounds silly in retrospect), and catch on to the fact that I really needed to get back to what were nearly human wave attacks. But that was part of the fun! I probably got sacked for not being aggressive enough with my forces, in the end.

Pre-plotting artillery was actually a lot more interesting than my usual Iron Warriors point & click Basilisk batteries. I was hounding Matt afterward to implement rules for FASCAM (not that I want to drive tanks through it, but it would be quite appropriate), and chemical rounds. As it was, I managed to land 3 out of 4 salvoes on reasonable targets, although Chris's M901s were about as titanium-clad as my BMP-1s...

With Google's discontinuation of Picasa I was having trouble making my albums public in Google Photos to post here. I finally found a work around so without further ado, some shots from a mid-August game:

Thanks Dave. This was the debut game for my Americans, as well as large numbers of T-55s on the Soviet side. Fun times.

What a great thread! Thanks (o:
I'm pretty sure that you have more Danish men and tanks than the Danish army had in '84; tiny country, but good to see us represented.

Thanks, bro. Glad you like my representation of your countrymen. One of these days I'll take the Danes out for a spin

Had another game against Dave last night in the Fix-It Shop. As promised, I took the Danes out for a game, this one an encounter battle. Dave will post more extensive pics, but I set up diorama of a refugee traffic jam during turn 1 to show off my Gamecraft civilian cars:

"Between a rock and a hard place":

Refugees figure prominently in a rather unfortunate scene in Larry Bond's Red Army (great read by the way - one of the best CW fiction books IMO). I think these cars will be a good addition to the scenery, and also movable objectives perhaps... etc. etc.

A preview of the actual game. Leopard I DK-V company backed up by a mechanized infantry company:

My dice were pretty poor, so the game kinda fell apart from the Danish perspective soon after this was taken.

Wow !!!! Very nice !!!!! Even just during training, sometimes a civilian vehicle would get crushed, but it was rare !!!! And the US would pay to replace it !!!! And the Germans knew it !!!! ;D

Cool game by the looks of it. Yep, Red Army is a very good read.

Thanks Dave!
Unfortunately, the Rule of Cool did not help the Danes in this game, as Dave's dice were almost completely loyal to him.

The "battle of the sh*tty tanks" was probably the most entertaining part of this game. We tried out the teleport mechanic for flank marches. Dave had a company of PT-76s off-board, and we identified lengths of board edge (to the side) during which they could appear (1st couple of feet from his deployment zone, 1st turn; middle 1 1/2 or so, 2nd turn; area towards my deployment zone, 3rd turn). Rolling for each tank as in for BMs for teleporting, except each '1' results in a loss of a tank, representing breakdowns or casualties along the way. These losses do not incur blast markers.

Dave lost 2 PT-76s to 1's and came in on the second turn. I swung a FM of M41s to meet them and the two sides stared at each other until the M41s eventually drove the Soviet amphibians away...
